This is so frustrating to go through the whole process and find out you can't use Fontself with Adobe CS6 - I am not a full time graphic designer so can't justify upgrading when the old versions do pretty much everything I need. Any help with this for someone with 'Vintage' Illustrator??

I've been designing custom letters for years when designing logos for clients. But I've never actually made fonts for clients even though many of them would really like one. Never even considered it was something I could actually do as a real typeface w/ font families!! You are AWESOME. Thank you for so generously sharing your expertise. I've got a new client who asked if I could do this. I found you and now my answer is a resounding YES!!

Thanks for the tutorial. A few questions before I get the plugin: 1. Has it got a user's manual? 2. Does the most recent version run on Illustrator CC 2017? 3. Is there any complication to include letter "ñ" , accents or dieresis? 4. Which template must I work on for a Spanish set of characters/glyphs?

9:24 you can check (ignore white) in the tracing panel and you are left with just the black text. Saves you much trouble.

OH MY GOD this is going to change everything if it allows us to use any vector graphics as each character I'll be over-the-moon. **EDIT** No, this sadly doesn't work like I thought it might. All I really want is a plugin that lets you make collections of symbols which can then function _like_ a font--without really being one. This would allow for no restrictions on what you could use--you could even use OPEN paths for SINGLE-STROKE "fonts"! Unfortunately, this plug-in will fail to accomplish any of the things I need. :( It looked so nice too.

When using live trace, there's an option towards the bottom that says 'ignore white' just toggle that on and you won't have to deal with all those steps to delete the vectorized white space after.

Also even w/o 'ignore white' I'm really surprised by the choice to magic wand the black vector just to cut it, delete the white, then paste it back instead of just using it to select and delete the white. This is so interesting.

how can you add accents and other characters and name them correctly. As beyond the keyboard fontself needs to know what the other characters are. So how do you find the correct glyph names for the typeface you're building.

Why would you not just select all the white that is created when expanding a traced image? Rather than selecting all the black, cutting it out, then selecting everything, then deleting it. That seems so inefficient. Am I missing something?

Could you add a glyph to an existing font? As Slovak language has "ľščťž" and I always have to use "lsctz" and add the symbols above the letter and it's so annoying

Hi, it's not possible to edit fonts that were made in another tool than Fontself Maker. Editing OTF font files usually lead to technical glitches when not done appropriately, and in any case most of the font licenses don't allow to modify them. So it's for both technical and legal reasons. 😉
