I live in one room- no closet but i use my dining room table with an Edgepro easel and eat my meals on my office desk- ceiling lights are too bright so I photograph my art outside in the open shade under the carport roof

Oh my GOSH! Not only a great idea, but learned a new term/item. I have been painting for a million years and had never heard of a taboret... not much room under my rock, lol

I paint in a small corner of the "office" of the house. I'm lucky if my husband doesn't rub up against my paintings and my palette! I wish I had a closet as big as that to do this! Genius idea! Our closets are SO small and stuffed.

Great Idea. Taboret often have wheels so a folding chair (some are comfortable) thus both can be put in front of the easel and a simple one or two clothing rods can be mounted on the wall mounted shelf uprights and matching rod brackets

for years I wanted a studio, when I was living with my grandmother. I had to paint in watercolor, but I wanted to paint in oils. Now I have a studio, but I made it into a fishroom ... so I paint in watercolor again .... (and acrylics).

I love this!!! I think it is brilliant for some with small homes, Also if they are concerned about a mess hit the wally world for a cheap 20 dollar indoor/outdoor 5x8 rug. It can be rolled up when you close the closet. Thanks again.

"Who wants it, makes it happen, who doesn't want it, makes up excuses" 😉 --- I live together with my boyfriend in a little 1 bedroom apartment (380 sqft) and I manage to paint at home 😅 having a guest bedroom would be luxury for us. I paint in a little corner or on the kitchen table and don't mind to put away my stuff every time I'm finished.

Many freelancers and home-based professionals who are space-challenged set up offices in underutilized space closets like that, even in hall or apt. foyer-closets. There are quite a few on-line resources for how-to-do that. For privacy -- or security -- you can put a small padlock-and-hasp on the accordion doors to keep people out.

I live in a tiny apartment and trying to make a studio space. I don't have guest bedroom closet but I can still use your ideas. For me, lighting seems to be the problem. Can you tell me what sort of lighting is best for painting work?

I did make my easel for under $30 dollars/ from wood at home depot/ is very steady. just three pieces, about 3 inches wide by 1 inch thick and 6o inches tall. then a centerpiece I took from a cheap tripod easel and attached to my new one in the center to hold the canvas and as a flat piece about 6 inches wide, to hold brushes etc. and finally a square piece about 10 inches wide the width of the easel to put your pallet, Hope I gave you and Idea

Stefan Baumann great stuff stef....some daylight, 5000K fluoros above and you could paint the whole thing middle grey. An extra would be a vertical palette next to the canvas so your colour mixing will be under the same illumination_no problems with changes of value. cheers

@gillinacook1477 Жыл бұрын
Oh that’s a great idea but here in the U.K. our houses are not built with closet’s or little rooms like that. 😢 I stand in a corner of our dinning room but I’m currently saving up to convert my garage into an art studio. I’ll just stand in the corner for now, Iike a naughty little women. 🤨

It's interesting idea but I wouldn't do it. I am worried about the lack of a window ventilation in a closet. There is no direct window in a closet and it will fill air in the bedroom with toxic chemicals. What about the turpentine, mineral spirits and professionsl artist paints that have toxic chemicals that can cause cancer. I don't want to put my family or myself at risk...and with oil painting, it's too messy and difficult to come off without turpentine or mineral spirits. It can go everywhere. And the smell will be very strong. It just seems wrong to paint in your bedroom....And where would I put my clothes?
@StefanBaumann2 жыл бұрын
My dear Friend, I would also recommend that you not drive your car because the chemicals that come from your car idling at a stop light are far worse. besides driving your family around you are putting your family at risk. and don't start with your tap water, chemicals in your food, and so on. Be afraid even though artists have longer lives than almost anyone in history. as for your clothes, it's about time that you lean out of your closet most of the clothes in your guest closet are out of fashion and need to be donated ASAP.

It’s great for non oil based paints , I would not want to use oils in the closet !

LOL, it's not THAT bad, unless you have allergies to the aromas. It's the turps, stuff like that you would need ventilation for.
