Improve your painting by selling your Art, Stefan Baumann talk to his class about entering shows and galleries will improve your art. Inspiring Millions to paint outdoors This video is about Touch Move and Inspire. Get a free Book at his website www.StefanBaumann.com The paintings of Stefan Baumann reveal the true spirit of nature by transporting the viewer to distant lands that have gone unseen and undisturbed. With the huge success of Baumann’s weekly PBS television series “The Grand View: America’s National Parks through the Eyes of an Artist,” millions of people witness for themselves the magic Stefan portrays on canvas, his passion for nature and the American landscape. By distilling his love of nature into a luminous painting of brilliant, saturated color that transcends conventional landscape and wildlife art, Baumann has captured the hearts and imaginations of a generation. Each painting becomes an experience rather than merely a picture - a vivid manifestation of his special and personal union with nature and the outdoor world. Through his mastery of light, color and artful composition, Baumann invites you to experience nature in its purity. It is no wonder that for many years distinguished American collectors, including former presidents and financial icons, have sought out his work.

While I was watching this and thinking...”Hey, I’m going to put myself out there”. Suddenly, I got a text from a friend who bought the only painting I ever sold. About 2 years ago. She said she’d like me to come over Monday and look at a space where she’d like one of my flower paintings. Wow! I’ve watched several of your KZbin videos and I’ve gotten so much good information. Your whole presentation is like food for a starving person.. Thank you!

Hi there Charlotte 💜. I’m just jumping in here 👋 I don’t know how old you are but if you’re artistically talented please do your thing!!! I say that for a couple of reasons; I may be wrong but it seems like you said ‘two years ago’ and your comment here was 6 months ago, so I am curious how you’re doing since. Your comment sort of sounds like that one painting was ‘the’ painting that sold. And I’m thinking if you have talent and had sold even a single one you can make more than one and sell them for a lot. How gratifying 🎨 Also I wonder if you didn’t have great passion for this why would you comment and why tell the story? I think it’s the same for me, as well as most true artists.. art is in your soul and it will never leave. We see the world a little differently and we need to illustrate our vision. Like I said, I don’t know you or your story and I speak with total & complete kindest & respect towards you, which brings me to my last point.. Do you- your paintings are part of what is in you! and make a way to fit it in ..for yourself, because things can happen that make it impossible. We age or disabling things occur (for me it was major spinal diseases & surgeries) and our abilities or energies lessen. Then thinking of putting our pieces in a show become a dream that won’t ever be. I’m 55 yrs old on disability now. I paint cool abstract art every single day but the idea of pushing myself to load up a truck/van & go to a show is overwhelming. How excited would you be to get accepted into a show. Or to win .. or get a mention. Or simply to be critiqued & take away a valuable lesson! From one artist to another-> make things happen just because YOU CAN!! Happy Painting ✌️✌️✌️

I have taken drawing classes, but just never felt like I was creative enough and quit. I am 63 and finally became confident enough to actually start painting. Six months ago, I started taking a painting class. I am trying to loosen up and just enjoy learning to paint. I do love painting and finally realized that is all that is important! Your videos are so inspiring and make me want to paint better!! Your art is spectacular!! The way you teach and inspire others in art is such an admirable way to live! Thank you so much! I am going to keep at it and enter a show as you suggest.

Your art world has just begun; with time to explore! I've talked to Stefan - he has incredible insight ànd covers more subjects than anyone I know! I'm 84 years old now and the descoverys in art just keep coming! Might add that I'm self taught, learned by observing other people's art works. Currently working in "3-D" and depth perception! Amazing things keep happening! Never learned to sell , as I paint in oils for my own challenges! Have been lucky to have many awards! Now buried in oil paintings! May have to start selling, as I need more room!

Hi Stephen. I majored in Art in H.S., wanted to be an artist, couldn't afford a fancy Art school and was discouraged by my Mother. So I became a Nurse, and a good one at that. Now that I'm retired, and settled into my new home, I'm unpacking all of my Art supplies and am going to start fooling around to find my niche. I'm really starting to get excited about it as I just started watching videos of people creating Art with acrylics ( one of my favorite mediums, the other two being watercolor and clay) and I know I can do it again and have a lot of fun. I stumbled across your videos and realized it never occurred to me to think about selling my Art at this stage in my life. Your lectures inspire me and I feel like a kid again with a second chance at life, and hope. I'm looking forward to watching every one of your videos and feel like I've found my guide. Oh happy day! Thank you so much Stefan for sharing your knowledge and encouragement! You came into my life at just the right time. I think it's fate.

Along with that, I read somewhere that portrait artists of many years ago would only paint their commission subject (model) in a very attractive way, flattering them. That is how and why they could make money.

Hi Stefan. I have just recently started to watch your videos and I've already learned so much. I have a request though. Could you include the homework assignments to the videos for us who live on the other side of the world and could never attend your classes? Also I find it interesting whenever you show the works of your students. I have taken you as my "art encourager". I'm a contemporary artist and I mostly work in my own little studio and whenever I feel like I need some inspiration I watch one of your videos to get me going again! So thank you a lot for your work! I really appreciate it.

Some don't like the idea of shows including me. I'm the sort of person that gets discouraged by being in a spotlight, it's quite odd. But I paint for myself unless someone wants to buy one from me. But I am not bothered if nobody never seen my work, for me my art is more for me feeling well in my mind about my work. I know it's the wrong way if I want to make a living out of it, but I find it stressful trying to make it happen.

I have a supportive tutor and now I have your videos too as well as three pictures in our class exhibition held in a professional gallery. Even then I nearly didnt enter them. My tutor took charge and pulled me part way out of the shadows. He also deals with negative group dynamics. And now I am trying to take on board what you are saying about entering exhibitions in order to stay out of the shadows, Your videos are great. Thank you.

Hooked on your series'. They're exceptionally informative and most importantly: empowering. I find that the wisdom you're passing on is helping to encourage me to confidently sell at prices I feel comfortable with, not the prices customers feel comfortable with. I'm not sure I'm bursting at the seams with confidence on that front yet, but it's helping me set up a far shorter path than I'd initially seen to truly value myself and the work I put out. So far I've managed to sell one framed watercolour and cover all material, frame and marketing costs for it and (and to comp the hard costs of a few others), but I know in the future that will only get better as both my confidence as an artist and seller improves alongside my skill and creative vision. Thanks!

Ive received scholarship and gotten into finals of shows - no one tells you this... but it gets really expensive. In no way are you selling more, etc.. but you are paying not only to enter the contests but to ship them. You might even go attend prize openings as well. ... all costly. I don't know that there's more artists or painters now - or if it's just that not many people are buying paintings.Maybe combination of both. I donno what the solution is... but I figure just paint the best I can for now and hang on.

I am enjoying your videos, having recently found them while looking up composition tips for a less-than-thrilling commission. Thank you. But I was surprised to hear that student work is being entered into professional competitions. It seems that you keep the assignments fairly open-ended for the student to express his own creativity and problem-solving. Still, when someone else guides the criteria [especially by a paid teacher... vs a group of artists working together as friends, for example], it seems to me that is it not truly the work of an individual artist. If that is the case, I would never think to enter my student work into anything other than a student show.
@StefanBaumann
@StefanBaumann 5 жыл бұрын
Some students works are better than other teachers works. You were looking for composition tips does that make you a student and if so are you being influenced by me? are you then a student? My dear Kelly, we are all students. History will decide really if you are an artist or not. BTW I can see the influents of another artist in your work. Don't be so judgmental, enjoy life and be free of what others do and concentrate on your art.
@BorsheimArts
@BorsheimArts 5 жыл бұрын
Thank you for replying, and wow, so fast, Stefan Baumann. Perhaps we are speaking of apples and oranges, yes, I get it... both fruits. Of course you see influences of others in my own work. No one creates anything in a vacuum and no one is self-taught, ever. What I mean in my comment above is that in the course of my paid lessons, I would never dream of entering a class assignment into a competition AS ENTIRELY MY OWN WORK. That does not mean that I would not show it or sell the work. Another way to perhaps illustrate my point: If a work by two or more artists wins a competition, would you all not share the spoils? Even a percentage? Of course we are all students, forever. Anyone who thinks he has the answers is just an idiot. While I can be an idiot about a lot of subjects, I never ever forget how little I actually know. Each project I take on is intended to teach me something new, such as my current commission and why I sought out new ideas on composition. Each person I come across, dead or alive, influences my person, so yes, I am being influenced by you. However, if you gave me a homework assignment, and I did it, and even if it was the most amazing thing ever, I would still not enter it into a competition without acknowledging that YOU [i.e., someone not only NOT me, but someone I paid to get instruction from on that one piece] had a hand in the work, even if it was just choosing the object or theme. But, perhaps I am just a prude. The world moves on, but on this point, I control my own behaviour, at the very least. I feel it is more honest.

I’m a little confused when you say “Apply to Shows”. There are the shows where you apply with a minimal entry fee but if you are accepted there is generally a $300 booth fee and you have to supply your own booth. Then there are the shows from the art associations but you have to be a member and then your work still has to be juried for the various shows. The only other type of shows I’m aware of are the Plein Air competitions. Is that what you were referring to with “Art For the Parks?

Arts for the Parks was THE art competition for landscape artist for many years. It was very prestigious and getting in the top 100 or even top 200 was really an accomplishment. If any awards were won it usually meant getting your foot in the door at one of the nicer galleries. Unfortunately, the original people who sponsored and ran the competition ended the whole thing. Their is a new "arts for the Parks" but it is only a shadow of the original. The original competition ending marked the end of the so called "good ole days". It took me many trys but I finally got into the top 200 of the original competition (back in the day). I wish I had gone to the gala. I failed to capitalize and leverage that top 200 finish. The advent of the internet has taken the glitz and fanfare of art and turned it into a midnight shopping run at Wal-Mart.

Just wanted to get phone call coaching from you sir. But monthly fees is something which i cannot afford. Hence, I will rather stick to KZbin. My bad (luck)

Although the entry fee is 'low cost' for these shows etc. I still really resent paying them, I just think they're a great money maker for the host, taking advantage of desperate artists. I won't pay anyone a penny to then probably refuse my entry anyway. Fuck that

Is being an artist what is said from 16:42 to 17:02, and eventually sell some picture? So sad, and empty, like the world is today, where everything is falling apart. No one of that artists that lives their lives in the way mentioned in that 16:42 17:02 wanted to live their lives that way, they just couldn't live it differently.
