Hi friends! I'm excited to show you how to make a simple kanban board for use at home, to track your personal projects. Enjoy!
If you don’t want to spend the time to make one yourself you can always purchase a Kanban kit, that’s easy to setup on a whiteboard. You can check out one of those on Amazon.
$250 kit: amzn.to/3qs3uNW
$55 kit: amzn.to/3yZV6ta
I also have other videos you can check out about Kanban, productivity, and pursuing your dreams. Be sure to subscribe and check out my other videos!
*I may receive a small commission from companies I am an affiliate of if you purchase a product through my link. This helps support my channel and I super appreciate it!

On my Personal KanBan Board I added a "Waiting For Others" Column between W.I.P & DONE. I seem to spend more time encouraging others to complete their tasks to allow the card to progress!

This video is no frills, but very clear and thorough primer on using kanban at home. And I really like how Amy called us friends at the beginning, it sets a nice tone for the video.

This is the first time I heard about KANBAN board. The interesting part is that yesterday I used sticky notes to set up my to do list and loved how I could visually move the sticky from to do to done side of my board. Yesterday for the first time I felt like I had a productive day. Then this morning, I did a search to see if there is a system out there that uses sticky notes and to my surprise, I found out it is actually a thing to use sticky notes to organize to dos in a organized manner. I loved your video and the information you provided.

During COVID, I was working from home. I had my work station on my dining table which is next to a window. My window quickly became covered with post-its aligned with tasks. I did save some spacing to still be able to look out. The last of them finally came down this weekend;

I just heard of Kanban today and I think it's very interesting. I did something similar when we were moving out of our house and into an RV and I had a lot of projects that needed to get done. That was 6 years ago. I used sticky notes and separate sheets of paper for "To Do' and "Done" but I don't recall the method being called Kanban and I'm not sure if I thought of it on my own or found it on KZbin. Probably KZbin.

Thank you for such a clear explanation. I was looking for ideas on how to better organize my kanban. I have To Do, Waiting, Doing and Done columns. What I needed was Projects so I'll add that as the first column.

I want to try this. It sounds simple enough that it won’t make my head swim or my eyelids heavy. Now to find a place for it that others can’t see! I wonder if it would be useful to have a column for “shiny objects” that distract me?

Thank you for sharing. Yes, I am familiar with Kanban and have been using it on and off over the last 5 years. When I get overloaded with projects, whether at work or home, I resort to either the Kanban method or mind mapping to help me sort things out. I have used the method not only with post-its, but also just with pen/paper and online using Trello. All very effective ways to do it.
@amymae8627
@amymae8627 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda! That’s great!! I personally love using post-it’s but I have also used Trello and Notion as well for digital kan ban boards. Mind mapping is a great tool too! Do you mostly do that with pen and paper? Or do you use a mind map software?
@Busybeeplanningsolutions
@Busybeeplanningsolutions 3 жыл бұрын
@@amymae8627 For mind mapping, I only use pen/paper. I usually do it when I have sooooo much in my brain and feel totally on overload. It just helps me sort things out.

@@amymae8627 And yes, post-its are my favorite too. But I have tried hard not to use them over the last few years as I feel like it’s not really cost effective and wasteful. However, I have gotten hooked on them again this past year and have started using it more in my work.

Great video, and great explanation. :) If I may suggest something, I think it might improve the whole presentation if you put material showing how to use some sort kanban software. I feel it just might visually look "cleaner" than sticky notes kanban board. Again, great material, and thanks for explanation.

How do you deal with tasks that you may need help with and you have to wait. Does it just stay in the doing or do you recommend what some of the tech people do and create a separate column until that someone completes the job. (An example, Redoing a bathroom and need to wait for the plumber to finish before you can paint or whatever)
@amymae8627
@amymae8627 2 жыл бұрын
You would want to add a column to your Kanban board called “Waiting For”. (Also sometimes called “Blocked”. On one of my boards I’ve titled it: Blocked/Waiting For.) So you would have four columns: 1. To-Do (or backlog) 2. Waiting For 3. Doing 4. Done! This additional column is super useful when you have tasks that you are waiting for another person to complete before you can continue your own work. It is also good for example, if you ordered parts or supplies, but cannot continue your task / project until you receive them!

What about endless lifetime projects like skin, stress, sleep, becoming funnier/more likable? You can never put them in DONE. They require like quarterly assessment & research/education about new/better ways of doing things. I guess run it through a kanban cycle, put it in done, then have a semiannual reminder that resurfaces it back on the board. Like how we focus on oral health every 6 months via dentist appointments.
@amymae8627
@amymae8627 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rich! I really like your thinking on this. You totally answered your own question! 🙌🏼 Having a reminder set at specific times of the year or at specific intervals would be super helpful for those kinds of ‘lifetime projects’ Thanks for the comment and thoughts!
@ultravioletpisces3666
@ultravioletpisces3666 Жыл бұрын
Be more specific. So "be more likeable" is a category (so give it a color) and list specific goals (which are achievable and measurable and all that)... so... "read andrew Carnegy book," "learn 10 new jokes," "watch Ted talk about making good impressions" and whatever else.. some things like skincare, might be better for a habit tracker, but you might also have more specific goals.
