Thank you so much for this. I'm just starting out with Unreal Engine, and I wanted to make a reproduction of classic Doom's E1M1 map. But once I got into the Unreal Engine Editor, I realized it was not going to be as easy as I thought. This geometry tool demonstrated in this video is EXACTLY what I needed. Thank you so much.

Could you do a video on adding material to this as well? I'm curious on your approach. My first thoughts were along the lines of creating a layered material and painting it.
@Cronosonic2 жыл бұрын
I've been wondering about this as well. Being able to use a bunch of materials to paint onto block meshes would be amazing for prototyping.

That's a great idea! This week-end I was searching exactly how to do it and found out a solution :) When in modeling mode, you can go to the "attributes" category and select the "MatEd" tool. Once it's enabled, you just have to select faces and assign a new material to them ;)

This reminds me so much of some old open source games I used to play when I was a kid. Assault Cube, Sauerbraten and a couple others. They used open source engines called Cube and Cube 2. You could edit levels in-game just like this. Those games are what got me into game development.

I was looking for something like that recently. I found paid addon for blender. It is grid modeller. Now only thing left is "first person view" version of this type of modeling. Basically Minecraft with little blocks mod or chisel mod with additional ability to "fillet" and "chamfer" edges. Probably esiest way it would be to make modification for minetest and add option to export modles as 3d objects

@aakburns5 ай бұрын
@@boggledeggnoggler5472 honestly, no.
@emoji43974 ай бұрын
@@boggledeggnoggler5472 i think you dont because the whole map becomes one object and it can only show you a rough idea and not do be used. What i have seen is, that you should probably just go into blender or whatever 3d modeling software you're using and graybox everything there. Because the software would make each object really as it's own object you could even change it around and make them in-scale. The only thing that you would have to do is to import it into unreal as an fbx and fix collisions, materials (because fbx dont really get them right)
