Your 2D design makes perfect sense to me (and it's really nice!) At about 5:32 I think the thing that was stymieing you about the top ornament on your building (I keep thinking of it as the "sandcrawler" when I see it from certain angles) is that its base isn't actually square, but more an octagon. Or at least a square with the corners bitten off - still an 8-sided shape. This adds 4 more tris to the sides of the top ornament and brings back the nice complexity of your original design.

You're totally right! I noticed that's what it was mid-modeling, and realized that, I don't need to get it exactly right since I had ideas of taking it further. So instead of trying to translate the design exactly and power through it, I jus used it as a spring board to take into my own thing.

I think that shortcut is Ctrl + click (on PC) on the edge. Which will select the band of faces in that selection. Hope that makes sense lol.
