Very professionally done! Extra points for not saying "just go ahead, and..." So many youtubers are poor speakers.

Great tutorial! I am having an issue however, when I use this process for something tall, for example a sharp horn, the VDM brush will cut it off partway and leave a nub, it looks like the faces near the tip of the horn start stretching and expanding to the point that theres not enough geometry for it to finish the entire shape. I'm not sure what's going on exactly, any other brush i make with this method works fine as long as the object im converting to vdm is short or small, if you could provide any tips it'd be very appreciated.

Hey I am glad you like the tutorial. When I was learning how to create the VDMs I also started with horns, and try in many different ways but nothing worked unless the horn was not too long and the shape was not too curved. In the description, there is a link to the KZbin channel where I learned this method; he does some stretching of the UV to deal with some of this issues, that is something I did not cover in this tutorial. Check his video, maybe what he does, works for you, but I have to say that I tried and did not work for me but could be because the shape I was using was way too complex. I hope this helps!

@@ngon8524 ty! I will definitely try it, i've compared the VDM map of the demo sculpt found in the baking setup file to a version of that same sculpt put through the processes you show in the video, and while similar, the vdm maps are still a bit different and it definitely has something to do with the UV.

@SunsetRex I will check those UVs maybe we can figure out how to get it right .

My VDM keeps appearing with the color covering the entire plane like the file labelled "Ear_VDM3" at 21:55. How did you fix this?
@ngon85243 ай бұрын
Hello, and thank you for the comment. Reducing the faces around the mesh to be turned into a mesh, was my way to fix the issue. Anyways, is it possible to get your blend file so I can take a look to it?

I have done a test, and something else to mention, is the size of the object, make sure to reduce it, and as I said in the previous comment, when you remove the faces before getting into UV unwrapping, ensure to make the area around object, small but leaving a breathing area. The VDM3; the object is bigger because I was doing it like that and making it smaller help to solve some of the map issues. I hope this helps!

The same thing is happening to me. The UV unwrap is making the material look like the Ear_VDM3 thumbnail. I can't get it to work.

@lasciviousembrace Hello! I wonder what else could be since my issue was solved after adjusting the size of the ear. Can you please send me a link download your blend file so I can try to find what is the issue on your side? Looking forward to be able to help!
