at 4:30 when you are making the bottom nodes fan outwards, you can select all four points at the same time and then hit S for the scale tool and then drag out from one of the points and that will allow you to move all 4 points inwards/outwards at the same time by the same length. Great video though and good clear explanations.

Love the tutorial, super informative and well explained but also just thought I'd say I think you can send objects to the back by hitting: "cmd [" for sending backward and an opposite ] to bring forward and I think if you hit shift as well it sends fully to the front or back, just thought I'd say as its always easier to use shortcuts when possible ;)

Hi Teela, Great tutorial! I cant believe I actually made something in Illustrator. I'm used to Photoshop so Illustrator is taking some time to get used to. You've made it really easy to understand and follow so thank you! A quick question...would you be able to say the shortcut keys your using more clearly or put them on the screen/description box? I was having a hard time following some of the instructions involving the shortcut keys you mentioned since I'm new to illustrator and couldn't hear the keys mentioned as clearly. Thanks so much for taking the time to teach us newbies!

Great video! Just curious, why didn't you vectorize the textures first? Won't they distort if you wanted to enlarge the finished image?
@EveryTuesday8 жыл бұрын
The watercolors I was using were sized large enough to remain raster. I highly recommend avoiding vectorizing watercolor textures if you can - it makes files sizes massive because of the number of anchor points that are created in the process (which can crash older computers) and it can complicate a simple process like a clipping mask because if multiple objects are involved, then you also have to know what a compound path is and know when to implement it.
@Sbeth858 жыл бұрын
Teela, I would like to create a huge banner and incorporate watercolor textures. If you think it's a bad idea to vectorize watercolor textures, then how can I have a watercolor effect without a rasterized image looking pixelated?

@CooperReview9 жыл бұрын
Hi - this is awesome thank you so much! I just don't know how you were able to draw the drips and have it connect to the shape like that? When I use the draw tool it just draws a line. Is there something special I have to do to draw something on a shape like that and then have that become part of the shape?
@EveryTuesday9 жыл бұрын
+The Cooper Review hey! You may be using the line tool instead of the pencil tool. With the popsicle shape selected, hit 'n' on your keyboard (the pencil tool's keyboard shortcut) and start to draw following the path of the popsicle at first, then into your drip, then back up to the popsicle's path and they'll connect :)

Hi, i would like to ask, can we apply the same method with the blob brush tool? I want to create a water color effect outline. Appreciate your input with rgrds to this, tq
@EveryTuesday9 жыл бұрын
Mohamed Faizal Basirudin Hey! You could definitely apply the textures in the same manner if you use the blob brush since it creates shapes when used. If you just wan to apply textures to an outline, select the outline, go to object > expand, then you can mask the textures into the outline the same way. Expanding makes a stroked path an object :) Hope this helps!

Can i ask a question i kinda do now haha. But can i use a black color and scale the opacity to 30 for example and put it over intead pof making a darker shade of the color that have worked for me but i wonder whats better?
@EveryTuesday9 жыл бұрын
+kriss420 Technically, it's a better practice to adjust your actual texture instead of darkening in Illustrator, because if you were to ever print it, the results would be more reliable. You can totally do what you're suggesting though, especially if you're making it for on-screen usage and want to save some time :)
@kriss12loverap9 жыл бұрын
oh ty Teela Cunningham
@emmicd118 жыл бұрын
I recommend using blend modes multiply and screen and then if you were to start distributing prints or are sending a file to someone will be making prints, use the Flatten Transparency option while your art is selected and that will turn your shaded components into colors and get rid of blend modes.

Why will this watercolor clipping mask work on a basic square shape I tried, but when I tried it on a dino illustration i made it turns white and doesnt work?
@katieelizabeth115 жыл бұрын
says the image is too complex, any idea how to make it work? I grouped the layers
@EveryTuesday5 жыл бұрын
You'll want to create a compound path of that grouped artwork before applying a clipping mask (you always have to do this if what you're cropping is composed of more than one shape). Object > compound path > make 👍

For some reason, my computer wont save the settings for the popsicle stick. I have entered in all the same info you have (color, 5 pt rounded corners) and opened the rounded rectangle tool but whenever I go to draw the popsicle stick, the settings go back to the original and the rectangle isn't very round at all. What am I doing wrong?
@CorlandriaJ8 жыл бұрын
+Chelsea Lawyer It adds a border stroke and changes the brush to basic instead of 5 pt round and when I turn the border off, the round corners go with it...
@BrandiV8 жыл бұрын
Ignore the rounded rectangle settings provided here. Simply hold down the up arrow while you draw your stick to make the ends rounded. Down arrow to make them squared :)
