You will need to create a parameter (this got cut from the video accidentally). 1. Name → Date Parameter 2. Data Type → Date 3. Current Value → 01/01/1900 4. Allowable Values → All 5. Value when workbook opens → Current value

I am practicing your example. However, after I created Date Parameter, go to Dashboard action to create Date Parameter - Year action with selected worksheet Sales by Year, I don't see Year(Order Date) in Source Field.

Andy, thank you. I have used your tips in my work. Relating to this one I tried to create this drill down on a non date field, I did everything correctly up to the formula containing 'datetrunc'. Wonder if I could use this functionality in a non date field?

@@chamilka3460yes, just change the parameter type to string or int or whatever you need it to be.

Hi Andy, this is very good. Please how do we do that (drill up). For instance one drill down to quarter but wants to see the year values again without going way down to day first. Also, is there a way to allow users go to the specific level they want to see without drilling down (even though we’ve given the drill down feature). Thank you for your help sir

Hi Andy, love this capability! Almost got it to work but got stuck on what I need to do to define Date Parameter?
@vizwiz Жыл бұрын
Did I forget to cover that? I could swear it's in the video. If not, let me know.
@DonaldBruceScotlandUSA Жыл бұрын
I think so, but no problem, I just used the basic 'All' selection. Turns out my issue was really that I had my YEAR Column in the 'Sales by Year' tab as continuous YEAR instead of the continuous +YEAR form. I initially was able to inadvertently make it without the + I think because my date field was initially discrete by default. Changing it to continuous (green) in the Column didn't automatically add the + for me, but I finally figured it out. 🙂 All works now on my own data set. Now the hard part is to recreate without your video. lol. Thanks so much!

@@vizwiz yeah I think the video missed setting up the "date parameter' step used for the date filtering. Luckily its just a date parameter with All values selected so not too hard to figure out if you follow the rest of the video. I really enjoy seeing all the ways Dynamic Zone Visibility can be used, that is my favorite part of the video :)

@@DonaldBruceScotlandUSA sorry about that. I missed that it was cut from the video. Totally my fault.

For my purposes I only need to use Year and Month. I have my Date field set to a fiscal year (which starts in April), but when I drill down to month, it shows the months in calendar year order, which means it includes months outside of the selected fiscal year. How can I get the months to show starting with April? Would love a suggestion!

Update default date format -FY start from April , so you will get expect months

Brilliant Andy. So useful,. It will answer all sorts of why questions to allow quick drill-throughs to find out the root causes. My only question is, can we create drill-up action? maybe via a symbol to the side if the charts?

Absolutely.

In my version of Tableau 2021.3.6, I do not see Control Visibility by using Value
@vizwiz Жыл бұрын
It came out in version 2022.3. You will need to upgrade.
@Igor_Vij Жыл бұрын
In previous version you can just drop calculation to the Filters pane and select include true (or exclude false). You do not need to upgrade to change visibility. :) But you need to hide titles though.

If you follow the steps in this video, it will work, assuming you have 4 levels in your dates.
