Your tutorial is awesome. I jumped into resin a couple months ago, and since I was new, I just tried to imitate what I saw, make sure I did the mixing and everything correctly..they turned out beautiful, but I felt they were just a copy of someone else's work and wanted to do something more my own. Well, I purchased the resin...and here it still sits, months later. I have been struggling with what to paint...I'm not always the most imaginative person, but I love abstract art...when you said that it doesn't matter where you put the resin on the canvas...it triggered the control in me to just let go...lose control, just put that darn resin anywhere!!! Now, I'm ready to pour!! That was simply all I needed to hear. Thank you so much!!

I do quite a lot of acrylic paint pouring and have even had a few commissions. What I like is the mess and the fact that I'm still using those kindergarten skills: cutting, painting, gluing, mixing, paper, pencils, etc. It's so much fun. I only use the resin after I''ve completed a painting and love it enough to spend monies on the resin. I love your masterpiece. It's so interesting how the paint actually creates the work and I notice in yours that the combo of black and white turned into a soft blueish-gray. Absolutely lovely. I've also purchased used canvas's at resale shops in order to save money and that becomes an adventure because when you pour paint on top of dried paint there are some interesting outcomes. I always set the canvas onto the cups (one at each corner and if its bigger than one in the middle of each side for a total of 8 cups) in order to let the paint and resin drip. I use smaller flat canvas boards underneath the painting to catch the paint that is dripping for a few smaller pieces of art. It's all way too much fun and you should be thrilled with your outcome because it's beautiful. Now - get one of your Martha Stewart labels and think of a great "name" for your paintings and glue them onto the back - and don't forget your signature - after all, YOUR ARE AN ARTIST.

+cat girldo You're so right! It just brings out the kid in you. That's why I love doing DIYs. It's fun to do. So many things to try and learn about. I would love to see some of your work. Do you have a website? I will be sure to name my piece and put my signature on it. I appreciate you sharing these great tips! Very helpful. 🤗

Hi - I do not have a website although my family keeps nagging me to do one to show my art and craft projects. I'll try to figure out a way to show you some but here is a narrative of one of my favorite things to do: go to TJ Max or anyplace that sells great vinyl shopping bags that are so wonderful that when you look at them they tell a story (like a girl on a bike with her ponytail blowing in the wind). Cut the front and back off of the side panels, remove the fabric handles. Find a canvas that will fit the panel after you've cleaned up the sides and unnecessary space, adhere the panel to the canvas. Don't use hot glue as it will melt the vinyl. Then the fun begins. You can add all sorts of "stuff" including bling to bring the panel to your vision...to give it an artistic flair. These are especially great for a pre-teen's room. A greats 99 cent bag can become something so lovely that you may decide to create an entire wall of them in your craft room. They can easily be changed out when you wish.

Today I created a facebook page that is going to just be about my artistic and crafty projects. If you type "Catgirldo" and hit the "request friend" button then I can add you to the page (you will be the first) and you can see the things that I do. I am adding descriptions and commentary (I love writing and am quite chatty as you can tell). Please check it out and tell me what you think.

Having seen this art form several times, but always by professional artists and people in a studio, my apprehension of completing my own project has been allayed by seeing your version. Thanks for sharing. Your videos are well edited - I can tell you believe in the KISS form of video production. Well done.

treshaja At $200/gallon...not to mention hand made substrates and artist quality or hand made paints, inks, dyes etc. and additives..you can now appreciate why an Artist has to charge so much for these pieces. You got a bargain doing it yourself and it looks fabulous. If you decide to do this project again, which I would encourage you to do so, I would Recommend using wood, glass or even plexi-glass. Artists normally do not do resin pieces on canvas because they will sag and develops other problems, especially large ones like yours. MDF is durable, dirt cheap, works well and can easily be found in your local hardware store. This is what is normally used or a premade wood substrate from your arts or craft store is great too. I use large canvases but I have had to develope a time & labor intensive technique to stabilize my canvases. It's not anything a weekend warrior or even hobbiest would want to mess with. Just a tip so your beautiful artwork will last. Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed your video very much. Best Wishes!

It was a PROJECT and a half because its not like I could afford to mess it up. I would not call it easy though. I took about a week... This is TERRIFIC! Something I would really love to do. Tresha, you nailed it! I have stayed away from projects with resin due to the fumes, so it is great to know about this project. A good idea for projects - especially like this is pick up a plastic shower curtain or two at dollar tree or whatever to cover your work area. I'm in San Francisco and I can find shower curtain liners for $1-3 and some times less. If I see a sale I grab them - protect your space.

Debra Johns That's what I use. They are more durable then the disposable "drop clothes." They are also readily available in every dollar tree I have ever been in, lol. When you live with 2 teen boys, a child for a husband and a female dog that doesn't care to wear her lady pants during that time of the year and refuses to stay off your white furniture....these become an essential investment. Oh...yeah...we're all artists as well lol!! Good lookin' out!

I LOVE this idea! I did use resin on an end table and inlaid sea glass in it--it was difficult because sea glass isn't always perfectly flat so I had bumps, but just added more resin on top to make a smooth and even surface. Your project, however, looks much easier and enjoyable to do:)
@treshaja7 жыл бұрын
+Miss M I've wanted to try doing that too on an end table. I bet it is gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your experience! 😊
@tealblues27237 жыл бұрын
Tresha, it really is gorgeous, but it took alot of work and I wouldn't recommend using sea glass, but rather, a flat and even type of glass or ceramic. My husband first set the sea glass in plaster/mortar (can't remember what he used--whatever is used to do ceramic mosaic tiles) then we ended up filling it in and topping it w/the resin. I probably should hv watched video's on how to do it but we just winged it and it is something I use everyday and still looks beautiful:)
@4everisnotenough7 жыл бұрын
Miss M Sounds like you guys made it a lot harder than it had to be. Lol. All you had to do was tape off your edges, depending on the table design and drop in your glass and cover...just like a bowl of cereal! You may have chosen to throw another layer or so on but its as simple as just pouring it on top if you do it while the first coat is still tacky. But hey, who cares? As long as the end result turned out the way you like. A for effort and outcome! Sounds beautiful.

The stain come from doing it in canvas. If you do it on a wood panel it won't. Plus on larger pieces canvas will sag towards the center because if the weight if the resin. Ooh and try using pigments...the color pay off is amazing! I love how your pieces came out

+Artisticsoul23 Thank you for sharing that! I actually have some pigments I purchased long time ago and I can't find it for some reason. SMH! I'm going to try to do on wood and see how it comes out. It's very cool to make. Thanks again 🤗

I put cardboard behind my large canvas (in between the canvas fabric and the frame) in order to keep it from sagging.

Your results do not look like a beginner! Hope you accept that as the compliment it is intended. Really great color pallet. The reason behind that is brilliant. I was curious if you were do it again, would you do your edging different and if so why? Thanks for such a great tut. You made the viewer confident in ability to do the same! ; )

+B. Walker Thank you so much! I definitely would do this again but with a much smaller one. Also, I would like to try using thin plywood since I heard great results with it and I would make sure the resin completely covers all of the edges to make it look seamless. Thanks for asking and watching me make this for the 1st time. 💕🤗
