Could you possibly help me with an action? I constantly have to grab images of shirts and paste them into Illustrator, and then crop out the excess white background around the shirt so I can size the shirt properly before placing art on it to be screen printed. I'm wanting to set up an automation to crop the shirts so that I don't have to manually crop and resize each one. I tried creating an action for it but only the resizing part works, not the cropping part. Any ideas?

I don't think you can, currently. You would need to write a script for it.
