Additionally, a lot of modern tunes are using flanger, chorus, micropitch, or some sort of similar modulation effect in addition. Tuned in with a real slow speed and mild depth. It makes that guitar part stand out a lot more and gives it more depth, almost like having two guitars. Some guys that do ambient as their main gig (like Andy Othling - check him out on KZbin - he's got a whole series on ambient guitar) will also chain delays, in lieu of reverb (or sometimes in addition to). Don't feel like you've gotta go out and get an RV-6 if you've got a couple delay pedals lying around - you can get a great sound out of that as well.

No matter what anybody says about digital modeling, my Binson Echorec Super Special sounds unmatched when creating ambient sounds with the swell set on the verge of runaway oscillation. Something about a pure analog sound is more interesting to me, but some digital sounds beautiful too. Nice video!

great vid! I love doing stuff like this. I love using non-guitar sounds as well to enhance or change moods & atmosphere, like wind blowing or a church bell ringing far off in the distance, for some darker tracks, people whispering are ACE, sometimes even flipping em backwards or dropping the voices an octave... or duplicate the whispering track, put one far right in the mix and the other far left, but take one of them and add some delay or just move it slightly over so the left & right voices DON'T line up with each other- it's a wild effect. I love this stuff as you can really let your imagination & creativity flow, and who knows what you might come up with! Guitar-wise, one time I turned on every single effect I had all at the same time, so you had delays, reverbs, choruses, etc., then I would play with feedback with pick scrapes or tapping the body of the guitar or rubbing my hand across the strings... super-trippy awesomeness!

great tips, these tricks have already started making it into my music. For anyone reading on a budget - for the price of a single boutique pedal, the VST plugin "Guitar Rig 5" is getting me great out-of-the-box results simply by choosing among certain "Ambient" presets. Seems like the delay and reverb are key; a beautiful compression setting helps; a little drive or "crunch" suits my taste, and add vintage Stratocaster and a synth bassline and I am good to go :) that's a beautiful guitar and amp head btw.

Rabea, man, I love your guitar playing dude! Lot's of feeling there. I can tell you have mastered the art of just letting the music flow out of you. Keep it up! Ok, so you were talking about gear in this video, and I was wondering if you have ever used a BBE Sonic Maximizer like the 462? I have one and it really brings out a "quality" to the amp's sound. Kind of like listening to a mono track and then hearing it in stereo. It's a high fidelity type of sound from my mono guitar cabs. That's about the only way I can describe it. Makes my Marshall sound GREAT! Even though it sounds pretty damn good without it.
