Kathleen you're absolutely amazing Artist...as you know I'm big fan of yours and I respect you as my Mentor...when you play with colors and catalyst on the canvas, it's look like you're playing some musical instrument ....loved it...thanks for your videos, it's very helpful

As always, beautiful work!! I especially like the contrast of colors….never would have been brave enough to use raw umber for background!!!
@kathleen_rietz_artistАй бұрын
Thanks! Using raw umber felt like a risk! I didn't know if it would all come together, but in the end I followed what I knew instinctively would work. I love trying new color combos. I imagine I will be starting with more dark colored backgrounds now and see where it all goes.

Do you mix every stroke of paint with glaze or just your blending portions. I have been looking for a technique to try out to pull away from realistic painting which I am feeling so confined to. I am searching for something more freeing, and this seem very freeing. I started many years ago with such perfectionistic issues from the emotional abuse many of us endure in life and have been feeling a desperate need for a change to discover further who I am as an artist. My art has always felt so forced and I am growing. I appreciate your input on the glaze question. Even just attempting to play with your technique can be a therapeutic exercise to free up many artists like me. Want to try this but want to understand more how you use the glaze. Thank you for your time.

Hi there! Thanks for your thoughtful question about my technique. The way I paint is very intuitive, so I don't always think much about how often I add the glazing liquid, but I will say that lately I use it more often than not. It is always on my palette at the ready when I decide I need it. So if the air is dry or my paint is too thick or my paint is drying rapidly, I will scoop up a little glazing liquid and mix it with the paint I am about to use. I like that it makes my paint somewhat transparent and easy to use. My advice would be to dive in and play A LOT until you discover a style that feels free and easy to you. You will certainly learn a lit about yourself in the process. Like you, my art used to be very rigid and controlled. I learned to just create in short sessions -- 10 to 20 minutes at a time -- in order to stay loose and not get too attached to the outcome of my paintings. I also offer a course that you would likely find helpful in letting go and making art fun. It is called "Loosen Up and Find Joy in Your Art". Here is the link: kathleenrietzartist.thinkific.com/courses/loosen-up-and-find-joy-in-your-art Take a look. There is a preview video that you can watch to see what the course is like. Thanks for your question, and happy painting!🙂
