That's a good question I am not sure I know the answer too I'm sorry - my instinct would be to try gloss in the recesses but I'm not sure 🤔 Might be worth trying on some spare parts to see the effect

When you paint the runes with the enamel wash, are you leaching some off again to get the glow? The video gives the impression there are two different shades, a darker blue and the glow?

I only had to do that on areas where I put a bit too much on - as the pigment dried it settled into the lower parts - I opted to control it by the amount on my brush, but you can absolutely soak some back up or use thinner as well to get the effect you want

It's all good! I TRIED to keep it in the lines 🤣 but inevitably I spilled a bit over the armour - once it dried I went back with Kantor Blue to tidy up. Also make sure that white oil paint is dry, and keep in mind the full effect of the pigments won't come through until they are completely dry as well!

Using an oil wash is such a clever way of doing those carvings. Makes it super easy. I really need to pick up some Pro Acryl paints. They look very useful.

With my army done and me focusing more on list building and tuning my army for 10th edition tourneys, my hobbying has taken a backseat. This was really helpful mate. Used liquitex titanium white ink instead of enamel as it was all i had, worked a treat. Made a killer necron using green instead of blue.

Amazing tutorial. I wish you had shown which oil paint was used, specifically. I've read Abteilung 502 is good but their white is "faded white" and I am unsure if that is white enough for what you're doing here?

It's a store brand white spirit. You can try Sansodor by W&N but it's a lot more expensive

Hey coach, two quick questions. Did you varnish the model before the oil wash? And how did you avoid having little blobs of paint where you add the wash to the recesses? (That last bit was where my oil wash experiment went wrong.)

I didn't varnish but you can if you feel the need When you say blobs - do you mean actual lumps of paint or just overspill? For overspill just clean up the area with a q-tip/cotton bud or a brush - dipped in thinner. For actual lumps then you may need to spend some more time mixing the wash

Water is fine, you might not get the consistency of coverage with thinned white acrylic paint though

I think all librarians are blue like this in the lore - but you are free to do it how you want as it is your mini :) I think blue glow will still work, but you could try something like a green too - check my channel - I have a couple of different blood angels tutorials

Take some oul paint and thin it down - I use odourless white spirit - I cover it briefly in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKKwaGeMerZoaJo It's a great way to shade quickly - but if you haven't got oils you can use white acrylic paint - it may just take a little longer

As a video to paint this model very nicely done with a great level of detail, however as steps to paint glowing runes( the point of this video). Long winded and completely unnecessary detailed for the purpose of creating glowing runes this could have been a 5 minute tutorial.
