a neat trick to painting lenses is using GW technical paints like Spiritstone Red, Waystone Green and Soulstone Blue. They dry with a very glossy finish which looks exactly like the reflective finish of a lense:)

Great video - thanks! One idea for potentially preventing you from accidentally painting on your crisp white armour; could you spray a layer or two of satin varnish over the model once the armour is complete but before you do anything else? This would seal in the white and, theoretically, act as a 'save' point to let you remove wayward paint splashes afterwards? What do you think?
@ThePaintingCoach

A gloss varnish will reduce the surface tension and helpnthe oil flow better - I didn't need it here though. You can also use it to protect previous layers if you want to be extra cautious! No ETA on Emperor's Spears I'm afraid - I may get round to them eventually

In English, the traditional plural of "helix" is "helices". That said, you can also use "helixes", which is formed by the regular noun pluralization process. According to Google NGram, "helices" is more common in all the English databases other than English Fiction. I don't know which is more common in spoken English.

I was concerned painting cpt Messinius because I felt I couldn’t push up from the white scar spray. Your highlight here look very muted too. I was thinking of an all over of apothecary white to give me room to come in with a punchier highlight. Thoughts? Also, how does the oil paint compare to the enamel based panel liners? I used a Tamiya brown panel liner for Messinius and it was way more messy and didn’t flow into the recesses as well as I expected.

Bit late to the party, but with the pure white highlight, do you think it only worked because of the blue undercoat under the white base? Typically I've always seen people espouse the use of a more off-white (Ulthuan Grey etc) rather than going in with white scar straight as the base, to allow some room for highlighting.

I can't say I have had any issues with it (I can't speak for temperature/humidity issues) but here are some tips... 1. Warm the can up in warm water 2. Shake for 5 minutes 3. Spray the can into the air - this removes any dried paint on the nozzle that can cause speckles on the mini 4. Start and finish the spray off the mode - move it across and use short bursts to build it up slowly Hope that helps!
