Thank you for this content and sharing. This is so helpful to me as a first time homeschool mom and full time work at home mom. I didn’t want to hand write everything. Your forms have been a blessing.

I don't have children but I still find this very interesting. I applaud all parents who are homeschooling. God Bless You. Colleen you are in tune with both of your children's education. Plus you give them FAITH....these two things will follow them through their life. A gift...❤️

I would love this as well! As a mom to a current 8th grader I am beginning to plan out his high school classes, and boy is it scary!

So fortunate our umbrella has a spot for this that we fill out and they include. Much easier to do as you go along than trying to backtrack. I think it’s ridiculous though that some colleges would request this as I feel we’re more thorough than public schools. It should be one way across the board.

Yes, I completely agree. We use an accountability group which is very similar snd we fill out this information through them as well. So I’m not doing separate course descriptions either-just using those. I do think that students who homeschool with accountability groups and umbrella schools have an easier time with documentation because we’re required to do it. They are also super helpful with the college application process.

Not disagreeing with you. 😉 just some comment. You gave some great info on how to do this!! 👍🏻 But where we live, and all the homeschoolers I know who’ve gone onto college, nobody asked for course descriptions because the test scores proved the education. (That’s around here, though….I know some colleges may want it as you alluded) I still plan to make descriptions, for that reason. HSLDA also recommends it. But i wish all the colleges were consistent on what they want. I know my sis in law, who’s already graduated two, only submitted transcripts and her children were still offered scholarship opportunity since most of those scholarships you have to apply through essay, interview, and then the test scores. Even in the government schools, grading is subjective. So then our experience around here is that test scores really are the only “commonality” to help colleges compare. Even weighted GPA’s don’t matter much to them. They unweight them bc again, subjective. (I know this bc of a close friend who has a business all around getting college scholarships. So he frequently talks to college admissions about what they look for ) It’s all a bit overwhelming! I’m actually not looking forward to all of this. I’m fortunate to have many homeschool grads in our circle who’ve gone before us, and fortunate that I used to write the high school/college resumes. But I kind of hope my son just chooses a different path and we can skip college altogether. Sigh….

Yes, it really depends on the college. In my experience most don’t need them. However, the world is changing. I’m not sure the SAT is going to be as important in the future. Many schools are still not requiring them because of Covid and sometimes if you don’t take the test, they request other things instead. The most nightmare stories I’ve heard relate to science courses not being accepted by a college or a public school if the student goes back to school in the middle of high school. It’s difficult to remember all the labs, for example, if you didn’t keep records. I also think the course description helps the parent plan out the course, including grading. I have had numerous homeschool moms contact me about how to grade mid-course or once the course is complete.

Question. How do you know the Classical Conversations World Geography is a college prep credit? Just wondering how to justify it if needed. Also, if my child takes an online course at Hillsdale college, because it is a college, does that make is a college prep credit? Thank you so much for your videos!
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Жыл бұрын
College prep just means a regular high school class that isn’t honors or dual enrollment. I have a video on that. The CC geography credit was only high school level because we added Abeka World Geography to it.

@@simplejoyfilledliving OK so it is college prep because you added supplemental reading to the course? I downloaded your high school transcript template which is a life saver! on the template it says geography CP. Is that just a typo? ❤ thank you
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving Жыл бұрын
@@BrittanyC-bb8pp it’s college prep because we didn’t add extra reading & projects to make it honors. It wouldn’t be considered high school level at all without supplementing with the Abeka course. The CC class was just 7th grade level.

Hi, I took my twins out of public school in 11th grade in NC bc I saw too many horrible things happening. I homeschooled them for a bit in 7th grade but highschool has been rough. I took them out in November right before 1semester ended. I'm wondering how to add their last school grades to the month and a half of homeschooling to complete 1 semester report card. Other issue is, I know I have to keep records of attendance but how do I prove the exact amount of time on each subject, everyday...to make sure it equals a credit and exactly how much work equals a full credit? Because, they don't spend an hour on each subject everyday bc it doesn't take them that long most of the time. Here in NC they say there's a specific amount of hours and days that they need to be eligible for a credit but people are saying their kids finished grades/courses early....how, if they didn't get a full years worth of hours for their subjects? Im confused. Plz help.🤔
@simplejoyfilledliving
@simplejoyfilledliving 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not very familiar with the NC homeschool law. However, according to HSLDA, the attendance requirement is 9 months of the year with no hours per day or hours per subject requirement. Based on that, complete a full high school curriculum for a subject, then issue 1 credit if the course is for a full year, or 1/2 credit if the course is for a semester. The publisher will say which it is. For elective classes like dance or piano, count hours spent in class and practice. 75 hours= 1/2 credit, 150 hours= 1 credit. You’ll have two transcripts-one from public school and one for homeschooling. The easiest thing to do is to complete the courses in progress when they were pulled out of PS and issue credits through your homeschool if they were pulled out before classes were completed. You can combine the PS grades with your homeschool grades if necessary , but the final grade would go on your homeschool report card if the class was finished in your homeschool. I hope this helps.
