This is terrifically helpful. I had no idea how to do this, and it was a no-nonsense way to get links into my document at first attempt! I also discovered that in order to go to the page you want to link to, you can type in the page number and press enter, rather than scrolling down, and the target will appear. You can then click "Set Link" and continue as usual.

I want it to link an attached one, since it is actually part of the document itself, and will be there wherever I open this document. Thank you!

Dear Erin, thanks for the tutorial. I have a question, I would like to create link to headings, but having "inherit zoom" activated so keeping the document at the zoom stage that the reader is currently on. I realize that you can either link to a location as you show it, which will, however, also save the zoom stage that you were on when creating the link. This can be potentially annoying to readers if they read the document e.g. on a small laptop or a big screen, and when clicking on a link the zoom stage is always changing to the one that you had when creating the link. I figured that the link can be also set to "inherit zoom", but then what happens is that the link is no more pointing to the text where you set it, but links to the top of the page, which could also be annoying if your headings are at the lower part of the page, and when zoomed in you don't even see the heading. I would be glad if you know a way to overcome this issue! Thanks a lot! Linda
@erinwrightwriting2 жыл бұрын
Hello, Linda. That is a very interesting question. Unfortunately, I don't have a workable solution. The behavior you describe (going to the top of the page rather than a page view) while in Inherit Zoom seems to be a known issue. Fingers crossed, it will be corrected in future software updates. I wish you all the best with your PDF project!
@geoffking14342 жыл бұрын
Hi Linda, great to see I am not the only person having the exact issue you've mentioned before. It seems so odd that Adobe do not appear to have a way around this. I have been scouring the internet for days now trying to find a solution It's frustrating that for some reason when using "inherit zoom' it takes you to the top of the page rather than to a specific jump point within that page. Really odd that there does not seem to be a work around for this. I have also tried the Adobe community website with not much luck. If I manage to find a solution I'll keep you posted.

Hi, Erin. Very nice work you do. I have a question regarding this Internal Link process. Is it possible, in some simple way, to "reverse" the jump so someone can go to the linked page and then jump back to where they started to continue reading without having to manual scroll back? I realize I could create a "Go Back" link on each page, but that wouldn't work for everyone. "Go Back" where? Some folks would have landed on that page from any other page where a jump link was embedded.
@erinwrightwriting5 жыл бұрын
Hi, Greg. That's a great question. I am not aware of a technique for that type of navigation, other than to create a Go Back link. However, you could consider using bookmarks instead of internal links so your reader can see all available sections all at once from the Bookmarks panel. I will be publishing a videos on bookmarks very soon; in the meantime, I have a blog post on bookmarks: erinwrightwriting.com/create-bookmarks-in-pdfs-with-adobe-acrobat/. I hope that helps!

One tab will be a summary tab and then the other tab would be the detail for the summary tab. I want to link the Summary tab to the detail. It there a way to link internally. Thank you
@erinwrightwriting3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching! If you have both tabs open, you can follow the normal process to create the link as shown in this tutorial. However, when the Set Page View dialog box appears, switch to the other tab before setting the link. Please note that this can create awkward situations with the original tab closing, though. A better option may be to combine all the files into one PDF and use bookmarks instead of links or create a portfolio. I have tutorials on bookmarks (kzbin.info/www/bejne/hZzQi6uNZ6eXrdU), combing files (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5SVmIadd9eFoJI) and portfolios (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5SVmIadd9eFoJI). Best of luck!

Thanks Erin, does this impact on existing links? say If I add a page within the middle of the PDF and want to hyperlink does it mess with the existing links?

Great question, Amy! In theory, adding a page shouldn't affect existing links. However, I always recommend rechecking links (internal and external) any time substantial formatting changes are made because, well, you just never know!

Hi Erin, I followed the instructions and it seemed to work fine. Thanks. Unfortunately, I want to upload the document to my website, but when I did that, the internal link seemed to take reader to wrong place in the document. It went to the correct page, but not to the right place on the page. Also, the underline wasn't visible once the document had been uploaded. But that's not too serious, I can work around that problem I think. Do you have any suggestions or comments? Maybe I'm trying to do something that's not possible?

Thank you so much for watching! Acrobat's behaviors work best within the Adobe environment, so I'm afraid I can't identify what is causing that unfortunate issue once your PDF is uploaded to your website. Is it possible to just link to the PDF in cloud storage from the website? I wish you all the best in finding a solution!

Thanks Erin, great explanation! i wanted to ask : is it possible to create a link in pdf1 to open a specific page in pdf2 (the 2 pdfs are files independant of each other)?
@erinwrightwriting3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question! You can certainly create external links to other PDFs, but I'm afraid I haven't found a consistent process for opening that second PDF on a specific page. If I stumble upon a solution, I will be sure to post about it. Best of luck!

Hi! I added the internal links as shown in the tutorial. When I am opening the PDF on my laptop, the link is clickable. But, when I am sending the PDF to someone on WhatsApp, the link isn't clickable. What to do? Plz help
