How To Create Job Scorecards For Your Employees (Better Than A Job Description!)

Do you create a Job Scorecard for every position in your company?
If not, you're making a huge mistake.
Not having a Job Scorecard (or a clear idea of what you're hiring for) is the biggest hiring mistake I see entrepreneurs make.
If you don't know what you're hiring for and what success looks like with that position, the chances of hiring an A player are slim to none.
I heard about this concept from the book "Who" by Geoff Smart & Randy Street. In their book, they talk about the 4 S's of hiring.
After reading the book, I went online expecting to find a Job Scorecard template or instructions on how to create a job scorecard.

I found nothing...only one obscure template on a third party site. So I created & refined this process over the last few years while hiring 35+ people & I'm sharing it here with you.

Nice dude! At 100 Covers I have gone completely off the deep end crafting a really elaborate scorecard of sorts for the designers, grading them on a variety of design aspects and giving them a monthly score that actually determines their salary. It's pretty wild. Glad to see I'm not the only nerd out there, lol.

Reviewing your job scorecard periodically is also an awesome best practice to make sure that you are aligned and prioritizing effectively! The concept overall brings to both the employer and the employee and a huge level of clarity.

The one about the hiring a COO is how I was introduced, because that's what I thought I needed. But I'm far from bing big enough to hire for that position, so your advise on that was outstanding! By the way, have you ever considered to develop and come out with your own course for hiring A-player talent? Hi Chandler, phenomenal tips! Was wondering though, are you able to please share a link to your actual editable g.doc plain versions of your scorecard templates that you showed in this video? The one you linked to in the description just goes to only an Elevate-branded "example" pdf, it isn't actually a "template", because it can't be edited. Also the "example pdf" that you linked to in the description isn't nearly as comprehensive as the g.doc templates you showcased in the video.
