Good advice. Good villains are definitely a thing I've struggled with. I think I've generally done a Star Trek (TOS), Kung-Fu, Jonny Quest sort of thing, where it's either a villain or a conundrum that can be solved before moving on to the next one. Sometimes, those disparate problems are woven into a larger whole, and maybe there's some puppet master behind it all. But I haven't run a game that's gone on long enough for that in a long time. I'm trying to get better. In my semi-recent DCC game, I was working on tiers of villains. One to start things off and be taken out semi-soon. One bigger one that might take a while. Then a major villain who would take a long time to win against. But I was dropping hints of the big guy from the start. For life (and death) reasons, the game ended before it really got rolling. But I felt like I was making progress on having my villain be memorable.
