you can make this a little simpler by doing the following: when you are in the family editor after you make the letter select it. in the properties window where it says "Text" it will show the letter you typed. next to that click the button, a dialogue box will appear called "associate family parameter." In that dialogue box select "type comment" and then load the letter into your project. This allows you to easily change and save the letter in your project by just clicking "edit type" and changing the "type comment"

You can change your view from perspective to ortho from your viewcube or properties, hope this helps.
