Interesting take on “relatedness.” I initially felt facilitating relatedness was Deci & Ryan’s way of saying belonging and connectedness, ie relationship ... akin to concepts of love even.

I agree with you, and found when studying the theory that the focus on relatedness is a feeling of belonging to others/social aspect, rather than relate the learning to their jobs etc. Interesting take yes, but I can't help but question if this is actually taken into consideration in the theory. I can't see it is.

Yeah she got relatedness wrong either intentionally or unintentionally

@@schaefer220 Yeah, relatedness is specifically with other people and a community. She does kind of bring it up but it's sidelined.

I love seeing the overlap between Deci's Self-Determination theory and Yu-Kai Chow's Human-Centered Design theory of games and gamification. The growing consensus around certain elements of human motivation looks to me like a sign that we're on the right track.

hi, Juliette! thais from Brasil. i have been followig the material you share with us through growth engineering newsletters and linkedin and also now here at YT what is amazing to know the face behind that kind emails and incredible visual identity (please share my congratulations w your team of graphic and instructional designers). my question is about the evaluation of learning. actually, one of my mayor problems in the learning experiences design is to know if my students are actually learning or to check how they are or can apply wjat they learned in their daily routines, i mean, how can I know how I impacted my learner's life since i am not working in a official training environment where i can track their performance?

I bet she wont talk how to do it, only that it does help, but no content.... let see...

I dont think talking, knowing about those three ingredients are enough.... im competent I surely know how this knowlegdge can affect my life, my environment, and relate it to society and culture Sure about autonomy, I can do it, It is my responsability about doing it, and I can, however, even with this knowledge, its tough , its a challenge that im determine to beat, but the self determination theory aint enough.... I love how she says, "If we give them create ways, then we can make.." like if she's doing something.... theory theory theory its all I can say about this..... getting people to move to..... like she thinks she's a Coach and ... dam I dislike how these people want to get other people to do the stuff, they only want to Coach... .haha, what has she innovated? Im sorry, just caught me on a break when I'm struggling doing my own stuff, loooking for something useful, and found this smoking waste of my time video

@@yaesmucho I'm actually using her theories in designing our game based learning program. I'm a game designer and it works.

@@darknessguy4221 oh for game designing , I thought it applied to real life.

@@yaesmucho You use game design so self determination theory can be applied in real life. Most people would need to see visuals in order for them to be motivated.
