*UPDATE* You can preserve your mushroom ink by doing the following: 1. Sterilize your glass container with Atamon before pouring in your mushroom ink 2. Add 1 teaspoon (or more depending on amount of your ink) of Atamon to your mushroom ink 3. Store in the fridge and take out only when you use it

Fun. I have found a few of these & some Hares Foot in my yard. Probably too late this season…but maybe next year I’ll experiment 😊 How long does the ink last? Does it stain equipment? Thanks!
@illustratornamedkasper11 ай бұрын
Never head about Hare's foot, looks cute. The ink is long lasting, if you add atamon and store it in the fridge. I have some that goes back two years now. Stain equipment? Not sure what that means?

I'm planning on making some. Does the ink ever go bad? If it does, can I do something to prevent that (I've heard alcohol works for some inks to prevent mold but idk since the ink is fungus too)? Does it need a binder (people used to use honey or egg whites, not sure if they'd work)?
@illustratornamedkasper2 жыл бұрын
Exciting! I have made a step-by-step guide to conserve it - it's the top comment. This method has worked for me, I have ink made 1/2 year ago in the fridge, and it's still good. I don't know anything about binders - go ahead and experiment (i'd love to hear the results!)
@AppelmoesArtandPhotography2 жыл бұрын
Very nice! Maybe I’m gonna try this myself! I expect you use a separate non-food blender for this?
@illustratornamedkasper2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks a lot! Actually I don't, I just make sure to wash it carefully afterwards. You can choose to use the ink that's kinda already there (see 1:50) without blending, here you will get a palish, fine ink. However, you don't get the small bits of the mushroom that produces that gorgeous spotted texture, that I personally like a lot.

U can add teatree oil and it will last longer
@illustratornamedkasper Жыл бұрын
so far I've had good results with Atamon which seems to be an okay product (it's sodium benzoate), but teatree oil sounds even more natural I guess. I would very much like to know if you try it out and see if has conserving effects on your natural ink!
@wizamoonstone Жыл бұрын
@@illustratornamedkasper I haven't tried it, just heard it somewhere BUTT I'm making some ink, these guys grew in my back yard! I have some teatree oil on hand and I have a question so I can test it: how long it takes 4 it 2 go bad without Atamon/teatree oil?
@illustratornamedkasper Жыл бұрын
@@wizamoonstone gosh, you’re lucky! Hmm, I wouldn’t know with tea tree as I have never tried it. But the badge I did last year in october with atamon is still good - no mold.
@illustratornamedkasper Жыл бұрын
Oh, misread your question. I think mine lasted a week in the fridge before it turned moldy.
@luxie812111 ай бұрын
How long does it normally last? I found like 50 in my yard and I want to make ink and give it out as gifts but I don't know the shelf life of the ink
@illustratornamedkasper11 ай бұрын
50? That's crazy! Well, if it's a shelf in the fridge it can last like forever it seems. I have some from 22' that's still good. Just remember to add Atamon and rinse the jar/bottle well with Atamon before pouring the ink.
@luxie812111 ай бұрын
@illustratornamedkasper nice to know thank you so much! Yeah there was a HUGE bloom I've never seen it before like this in my yard before, I already have almost 4 cup of ink, thank you for the advice! Super helpful
