How to create spacers and assemble a light up paper shadow box in a frame

In this tutorial I take through the steps to create foam board spacers and how to assemble them together with micro LEDs to create a light up shadow box.
To create the spacers you’ll need:
3mm foam board (5 x A4 sheets for this example)
A pencil
A sturdy ruler (metal is best)
A craft knife
A cutting mat
To assemble the final shadow box you’ll need:A shadow box frame
The spacers you’ve created
Micro LED ‘rice’ string lights (I bought these ones: amzn.to/3p0LzPl)
Shadow box paper layers

That's a good idea wrapping the mini lights around that one panel....but, I would definitely go the route of using the machine to cut out all those spacers. Do you think anyone has decided to make these in bulk to sell to people who make shadowboxes? Well they should right?

Hi there, I have been meaning to try to cut the spacers on my Cameo 4 as you can use a deep blade that I think cuts 3mm deep. I don't have the blade yet so haven't tried. I'm still not convinced that foam board would cut well in the Cameo, at least not in one pass, given the different layers it's made from (card, foam, card). Corrugated card or some other material might fair better though. I don't know of anyone making them in bulk. I am working on a way to create spacers in a different way from 'normal' card, but currently the challenge is to make it simple enough that it's quicker than hand-cutting the foam board ones!

Sorry for the delayed reply, I haven't really been on KZbin for a while due to personal reasons. Unfortunately the foam board is too thick to cut on a Cricut I think.

I can’t the video on KZbin. And I need to see it on there. My box is black had 8 layers It’s all Elvis on stage and not sure do I try and light each spacer .. would love to go this before xmas

Sorry for the delayed reply, I haven't really been on KZbin for a while due to personal reasons. I always tend to have the lights in the back spaces and then cut holes in a non-obvious place (near the edges) of each layer, to let the light shine through if my paper layers are not white. With white layers as ling as you use paper and not card then the light should shine through from the back OK.
