Don't forget to consider the materials you are painting highlights on. Different materials reflect light in different ways, some absorb more light, some reflect more strongly.

Anything relating to rulers goto View Then anything relating to the colours (I believe you meant the one on the Layers Panel) right click the thumbnail and scroll down then pick the colours.
