When making maps a lot of people forget to take into account, the genesis of the world they are building. Tolkien's map has a lonely mountain because the world is a result of Eru Ilúvatar design. So any map where it is a "created" / "designed" world the design is totally yours to create, if you are going for a natural world ~Earth like then keeping it realistic is a lot more important. really appreciate you pointing out that the map can be what ever you want it to be.

Mati, your forest technique is great. I was looking at a map on the Explore page recently and saw this technique in a finished map. I was scratching my head on how you had done it.

I seriously wish there was just a way to learn all of that geographical information, because it genuinely is so fascinating to me and I'd love to learn it to apply it to cartography.

That would be awesome but it would be like 5 hour stream. Maybe a timelapse would be better?

@@inkarnate7021 sorry for late response!! Maybe it’d be easier as a serial? Like perhaps every stream you stop for 10-15 minutes to explain an aspect of geography/realistic world building, then you can clip out those segments later for a youtube series? Might take a bit of planning before hand, but it could be a way to get it done without taking away from stream time!

Great map. One thing, those textures between areas REALLY need to be blended.

Agreed. We can that adjusted properly in the next part of the series. Thanks for pointing that out.

I wish Inkarnate would allow us to work with a larger canvas for world maps, it's hard to fit a full planet with enough detail.

I believe it does. My map that I'm working on is 120x60 (So more than double the normal size) Edit: Might need to be subscribed to Inkarnate.

there is no need to have any size bigger than 30x40 or 40x40, because you can just reduce the size of stamps to make it bigger. but there is a way to change the aspect ratio of maps.

@@soulcleave2386 but won't they appear pixelated when you render export the finished product?

@@ReaverLordTonus if you go below size 10, they do lose some of their fidelity, and they might lose some form. but if you export in 8k, you wont notice. you can also make it a bit more stylized. but if you want to go that small, youd just be better off making sections, or reducing the stamps to only ones that you could see. youd only have capitals shown on a "true" world map that shows t he whole world. personally i recommend just doing continents.

@@soulcleave2386 For some reason my comment disappeared, might have been because I added a reddit link, but basically I said that I did try making sections. What I did was make a rough outline of the complete map and then placed 4096x4096 squares on the landmasses and made sure they were overlapping each other. I then cut what was in each square to use as a base texture I would import into Inkarnate. I would create the first region using that outline, leaving only the edges of where the next sections would begin unmade so that when I export the image, I can then add it to the next one so the already made parts of the map are shown along at least one edge. I would repeat this process until I have all the regions completed and each one has part of the adjacent one in their image so when I export them together on a single canvas, I just overlap the area they have in common and then use layer masks and gradients so they all blend together. It was a long and grueling process to do this.

The same applies for Parchment as for the World or Regional Styles. The fun part about Parchment is you can paint the stamps any color you want. Check this video here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eWO8cq2Vh8iHabs
