So interesting to see your thought process in creating the design, and then witness how much easier it is to draw these kinds of designs in Photoshop (or whatever program you're using) when you can duplicate and mirror! One day I must learn how to use vectors to get those lovely clean lines.

Thank you, I’m glad you found it helpful! I’m using Affinity Designer by Serif, it’s a great alternative to Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator etc.) and much more affordable! So definitely check it out. They’ve got some great tutorials on getting started using the tools in the app too.

Your video and composition are very much like the work I have done; building a composite by many layers. Once a curve is "set" as you like, you copy, reflect and place repeating elements to avoid inconsistent shapes and gaps. That is Very helpful for others who want to do similar work. Now you have motivated me to return to drawing, where I make my modifications to designs with tracing paper and pencil. Then, when I am certain that I can trace those lines even more uniformly, I scan it, and create the bottom layer as a continuing reference. Thank you again for sharing this Very valuable method. This also has helped me understand that the way I was doing this via hand drawing and Illustrator, was a good approach, that I used more than 20 years ago. God Yule!

My pleasure. Glad to inspire you to return to drawing :) I think I picked up this method in my days at the School of Architecture (at least the analogue version of it using tracing paper), and it just kind of stuck. It also translates so well to the digital process of developing a concept or design. It affords you the confidence to experiment a little more without loosing the things you've already put down on paper, as you can always go back to the previous layer.

Awesome vid, one criticism I have is that you might want to cut out all your "erm"s as they become a bit tedious after a while. Also, can you make some Mammen-style artwork?

Thank you! And thanks for the feedback. “Erms” really get under my skin too. So I was trying to be mindful of leaving out the “erms” while recording, but apparently unsuccessfully 🤦‍♂️ I’ll step it up in the next video!
