How to Crochet a Basket - DIY Chunky Yarn

Not sure what stitch you used to start to build up the basket? How does the basket have a ridge if all stitches are single crochets? Thanks for the information

You use single crochet stitches to build it, then once you are done and have tied off the yarn, then just fold the top few inches down over itself to create the top ridge.

There actually isn’t a bottom ridge for this one. When you stop placing the increasing-stitch rows, then the basket should start to build upwards rather than out. I hope this helps! I forgot to mention that when you get to the top of the basket (if you’re working with HDC up the body of the basket), then you will want to place a few SC stitches before placing the SL stitches.

Hi. Is the yarn Medium 4 is equal to 8ply yarn.?

I am not 100% sure, but I think 8 ply is a little smaller than medium weight. If you are looking to use it for this project, it should work, but the basket will be smaller than if you use 4 medium. I hope this helps

I am not sure I understand, if you use 2 strans of yarn, why not just use a thicker yarn ?

You can. This is a lot cheaper and is perfect for scrap yarn, as you can mix size, weight, brand, and type of yarn and it won’t look bad.
