Because I am a sewer or seamstress as well, I'd like to offer a suggestion. When sewing on a button, put a stick pin across the button so as to make sure there is room for the fabric. Then, wrap the yarn a couple of times under the button before tieing it off. I've learned this the hard way. Good tutorial.

Heads up to anyone who reads the written pattern. She counts the chain 1 as a stitch. I've ripped this out several times trying to figure out why my stitch count isn't the same. It's because the chain 1 is counted as a stitch. The written pattern is a bit confusing but overall easy to follow. I'm going to keep working at it. I love the stitch and can't wait to see what it's like once I'm finished !

The pattern of the sleve is so small as we continue the sleve. Why it so?
@YayForYarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarina. Yes, the sleeve gets smaller as you go, because it is fitted. So as you get closer to the wrist, the sleeve gets smaller. If you prefer a straight sleeve that does not get smaller, then when the pattern instructs you to work Round 2, just keep repeating Round 2 of the sleeve until the sleeve is long enough for you. I hope this helps!

Hi when it says repeat row 4 -5 (7 times for large) is it row 4 and 5 equals once. From 4 to 5 again is twice?
@YayForYarn5 ай бұрын
Yes, that is correct. You will repeat that pair of rows 7 more times after the first time you worked those rows. So after you have worked Rows 1-5, you will repeat Rows 4-5 seven more times, which will add 14 rows to the 5 rows you already had. Then, the pattern says to repeat Row 4 once more after that. So at that point, you should have a total of 20 rows (not including the foundation single crochet at the beginning of the pattern). I hope this helps!

Beautiful cardigan! Im trying to make this as a birthday gift for my sister. I am a beginner, but I am familiar with all of the crochet terminology and all of the basic stitches this pattern calls for. stuck at the beginning of the second row. I don’t see where I have chain spaces. I was sure I followed that first row to a T. 🥲
@YayForYarn Жыл бұрын
Hi. The chain spaces in the row should be at the "corners" of the piece, where you worked "hdc, ch 1, hdc" all in one stitch. That part of the row will create a bend in your piece, where the raglan shaping lines will be. Feel free to send photos of your piece to blogger[at]yayforyarn.com and I will be happy to help troubleshoot. I hope this helps!

Beautiful pattern ❤️ it's exactly the project that I have been looking for. I do wonder if the blo is an odd numbers of increasing stitches and flo is an even number of increasing stitches. I seem to always have an extra stitch for blo and I am unsure if I skip it work into it the hdc chain one hdc space?
@YayForYarn3 жыл бұрын
Hi. In this pattern, you always work into the hdc right before the ch-1 space. Do not skip a stitch unless the pattern specifically instructs you to do so. If you have an extra stitch there, I would recommend checking the stitch count of your previous row against the stitch count given in the pattern for the size you are making. Also, please make sure you are working the first stitch of the row into the correct stitch. The pattern instructions say to work the first hdc into the same stitch the ch-2 is coming from. The ch-2 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch, so the first hdc is always worked into the same stitch the chain comes from. If you work the first hdc into the stitch after the one the chain is coming from, that will throw off the stitch pattern, and you could end up with an extra stitch before the ch space as you described. I hope this helps!

Hi ! Lovely cardigan 👍 I guess you can also do it with plain old regular hdc ?? Or maybe herringbone hdc... ?? (Ok, might look a bit boring, but... maybe quicker 😅)
@YayForYarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jen. You could try using regular hdc, but the gauge might be slightly different. With the BLO / FLO hdc, the alternating texture keeps the stitch posts closer together. You could try it in a gauge swatch and see how it goes. I hope this helps!

Hi - Thank you so much for this lovely pattern. Your video is excellent and has allowed me to reach row 10!!! I'm so proud. I'm wondering through if I can change the stitch of the body of the sweater to maybe a double or triple crochet. This may look contrasting and give more stability?? Any thoughts?? Again, thank you so very much.
@YayForYarn Жыл бұрын
Hi! So glad that the video is helpful to you. The sizing and measurements of the sweater pattern is based on the gauge of the back loop / front loop half-double crochet stitch pattern. If you were to switch to double or triple crochet, it would probably throw off the gauge, as the stitches per inch and rows per inch would be different. You could try it and see how it goes, but for best results, I would suggest sticking with the stitch pattern in the pattern instructions. I hope this helps!
@chrystaldefreitas6838 Жыл бұрын
Yes this helps and makes a lot of sense. I guess my problem is going back and forth between front and back in the same row. I get confused if the next stitch if front or back. I'm senior and vision is not the best. Could I do one circular length with back loop and one length with front loop?? What do you think - and thanks again for responding. I do love this pattern. @@YayForYarn

Glad it was helpful. I am not sure what you mean by 'circular length'. Do you know if that concept is called by other names as well?

Hi - I moving along with my cardigan and I'm making a small size - but...the arm openings for the raglan sleeves seem too small. Do I just keep adding rows 6 & 7? The front looks good it's just that the arm openings are too snug when I try it on. thanks for your help. Chrystal@@YayForYarn
@YayForYarn Жыл бұрын
Hi. You could continue repeating rows 6 & 7. That will affect your stitch count, but if you're comfortable with making adjustments, I think that could work to increase the armhole size. Also, did you block your gauge swatch? With some yarns, the gauge can change after blocking. If your gauge swatch became slightly larger after blocking, it could be that the finished project may be slightly larger after blocking as well. I hope this helps!

I love this pattern, but because of the color I am having difficulty in seeing where the stitch to pick up after the increase is . I always have this problem when turning my projects. Can you help me. Respectfully, alana smith
@YayForYarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Alana! If you can first identify the chain space, then turn the piece so the top edge of the work is facing up, look at the v-shapes that make up the tops of the stitches. The v-shape from the ch-1 will be directly on top of the chain space hole, so the correct stitch to work into after the chain space will be the next v-shape along that top edge of the work. (You can mark this stitch (first regular stitch after the chain space) with a stitch marker before working into the chain space if that makes it easier to identify in the fabric for you.) If you have any trouble with this, feel free to send me a photo at blogger[at]yayforyarn.com and I will be happy to help!

I am up to row 8 but I don’t think the arm hole area is going to be big enough. Is there a way to add a couple of rows before joining the arm hole on row 8 to make it a larger opening? I think I have about 6-7 inches on size large and I think I should have closer to 10? Or how many inches sounds like the right size for the arm hole on a large? Thank you.
@YayForYarn2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sharon. It sounds like you may not have repeated some of the rows enough times. After you've worked Rows 1-5 once, you'll need to repeat rows 4-5 seven more times (for a total of 14 extra rows), and then repeat Row 4 once more after that. So by the time you've finished repeating Rows 4-5 and worked Row 4 once more, you should have a total of 20 rows. Then, after working Rows 6-7 the first time, you'll need to repeat Rows 6-7 once more before moving on to Row 8. If you do have the correct number of rows, then you might re-check your row gauge. If your gauge does not match the pattern in both width and height, it can throw off the size of the finished sweater by quite a lot. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any more questions. I am happy to help!
