I left my tree up till after valentines before. The rule is when the ornaments, are falling off the dry tree take it down. No lights after it gets dry tho. With an artificial tree it is till the cats are daring to steal ornaments and climb it. The first time I watched you was when you showed the big stack of scraptastic blankets . They are pretty awesome!

Years ago homespun was the only yarn I would ever crochet with I have made so many things with it
@sarahbenson53372 жыл бұрын
Homespun is not one of my favorites but it can be useful for a project when I need to combine skeins of donated yarn. The direction you wrap your yarn is opposite of the way I wrap mine. Except that when you double wrap the yarn, you wrap two different directions. Now I'm eager to try your design to see if mine finished blanket looks very different. My homespun yarn is in storage so I need to retrieve it. I'm pretty sure the magic knit is just another way of tying a square knot which is also very secure.

Now there's a plan for the Homespun in my stash. Thanks Ginger, and thanks also for showing the magic knot. It seems that the time needed to crochet a project s not multiplied by the number of strands we use...but it grows a lot faster. What a deal!

I have a lot of homespun. I did knit a blanket a long time ago. I also made a sweater it’s very heavy. I went up in my attic and got it down. I did 100 stitches with a p hook 1 strand of homespun 1 strand of worsted weight. I’m doing 5 rows and changing colors. I have a bunch of a variegated green I may change the worsted weight every 5 rows in another one

I just finished a shrug made from Loops & Threads Madrid with cuffs and border from Homespun yarn. Because the Madrid is a self-striping yarn, I kind of had trouble selecting a solid that would coordinate. I had doubts about the Homespun until I had finished the first cuff, but I love the finished result. I used a Susan Bates Crystal Lite hook and it worked nicely. 😃

It takes approx 6-7 seven ounce skeins of Red Heart Super Saver 4 weight yarn to make a throw size afghan. (50"x60") It depends on the stitch used and the tension. I base this on personal experience and uses of lots of Red Heart yarn. There are similar yarns that are compatible.

I am working with homespun right now and I haven’t had trouble with it, o have been using a size 7 hook from clover (the hook part is not metal) which glides through the hook very well! I totally agree I would not use any hook under 7 in my opinion! It does look great when worked up I love it

I do not like working with homespun. Mixing it might help. Is there a reason for mixing up chaining over and going across on the same stitch?
@theYarnGeek2 жыл бұрын
Hi Camper! Definitely try mixing it with another Yarn..... it's a game changer! Also, there's no reason for my workings on my stitches. It's just how I crochet 🤪. They are just regular hdc, so just do it however it feels comfortable to you.😊

I have a humongous amount of a pastel Homespun that I want to try a blanket like yours. Is the scrap blanket crochet with another yarn still makes the Homespun very fluffy with all the flyaways that are so bothersome? Thanks

I don’t understand the issues with Homespun. It just takes some finagling to get used to the texture. Also after a certain number of blankets the household can only use so many so I donate yarn to Goodwill that way others can also have fun using nice yarns and who knows? Maybe they make scrappy blankets too ☺️
@barbaramatthews4735 Жыл бұрын
I can crochet with anything. I have used very fine tread to rope. It's not that Homespun is anything special for me, I just don't know what to make with it. It's a little pricey to buy enough to make something big.

Love that! Could I use a DC instead! HDCs always hurt my wrist. 😕 Just finished a shawl using two strands of yarn. I don't care for a three weight, so I mixed it with a four and used a 9mm hook.

How do you wash and dry your scraptastic blankets
@theYarnGeek2 жыл бұрын
I usually just throw them in the washer and dryer on low heat settings. The Yarn I use is mostly acrylic, so I have never had a problem washing them this way. I hope this helps!😊

I get frustrated with the texture because I can't see the stitches, so I just go for it, feel and hope for the best, but because of that texture it is a very forgiving yarn.

Hold the phone - why is your yarn over two different motions?? 🧐 You wrap differently depending on whether or not you’ve worked into the stitch?? 🤨
