Kimmy P That's so nice of you! I have cancer & the hospital I was at for treatment was fortunate enough to have people do this ongoing so we were each given one to keep. People donated yarn & the hospital had a couple of skeins with knitting needles in several baskets. They put those baskets throughout the oncology floor. Anyone there could knit a square or 2 or whatever they had time for. They'd leave the squares in the baskets. Volunteers would then put the squares together to make the blankets. It was such a nice idea, you knew alot of people contributed to make your blanket. It really meant alot to us.

Love the magic knot idea. I put my scraps in a mesh veggie/fruit bag to hang outside for birds to build nests with.
@sandieblacklidge64796 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up re doing that... I thought it sounded like a great idea when I first heard someone mention it, but later read that it's actually not good at all. Both the adults and the baby birds can get claws, feet, whatever, caught in the yarn fibres and not be able to free themselves.
@gingersmith60246 жыл бұрын
Also unless the colors are neutrals, it is a bad idea, it draws predators to the nests.

yes, I use it for everything, thin and thick yarn. As you say, the knot tucks in nicely and stays hidden. Even used it on lacy patterns with quite fine yarn but you really have to pull the knot really tight and small there.

Love this pattern. I started doing my "magic knot" scraps with black yarn, doing a solid granny square. I like this HDC better. I just make pet blankets for the local humane shelter....cats & dogs don't care what color their blankets are. I have also used white with my pastel scraps. I' m going to look for the yarn needle that you used...so much better than the ones I'm currently using, but they are probably 20 years old. I had a whole basket of scraps, that I swear, were having a party...they were a mess...so one cold Iowa Winter day, I "magic knotted" all my scraps into one large ball.

I made one using 2 strands and it created some beautiful combinations and it’s heavy. With some of these other videos on how to make a scrap blanket, you seem to have to use your good full skein yarn to give it consistency like making every row a solid shade for the whole row. Seems to create more scraps 😂😂

35 years ago, my Mom did this but she used what she called a "fabric stitch" which is 1 sc, 1 dbl, 1 sc, all across the row. In the next row, you make 1 double crochet on top of the sc from the previous row, then 1 sc on the double from the previous row. This makes for a nice, tight weave. But my Dad complained it was too heavy on top of him, lol, so then they used it underneath them, like a mattress pad, and it kept them so warm. ♡

Thanks for answering. I'm surprised at how much yarn I'm using but it's a good thing.

CHRISTA! That knot is so fab, I will be using it, it's so easy to do, no tails and you can't even find it in the work. I guess it's time to drag out all my scraps haaa love your blanket. It's time to make mine. "As soon as I'm done with my hexi cardis" ;) OH and the April CAL. HEHE

I LOVE the way the brights with the dark go together! I might want to just buy a few skeins of each, just to make one without using scraps!
