Love this. Very easy to understand. Was able to make one while I'm in the hospital for observation overnight. It is great for in-between all the visits and small enough to take with me. I used orange and black yarn for a spooky stocking. I made mine a little longer at the end. I did 3 hdc per stripe. I prefer a thicker stripe. Anyway thanks again!❤

Depends. It's easy to make less rounds between rows 4 and 17. If you choose to decrease the number of stitches on each round of the toe from the 36 in the video, you'll have to reconfigure the heel and such to match the new numbers. Then reconfigure the top part as well.

Can you substitute the chain 4 and slip stitch in the beginning for a magic circle?

You can if you wish, however, it's a bit tough to get 12 half double crochet stitches in a magic ring securely. I generally recommend magic rings for things like crochet toys, where you need to absolutely avoid holes in your work so the inside stuffing doesn't come out. However in decorations like this, a little hole at the very end of the stocking from a chain 4 won't really affect it much.
