I’m making the duck from your book and I know it seems silly, but should I be counting the slip stitch as the first stitch out of however many I need of the new color?

Does this work with half double crochet? Thanks. Ive been searching for this on youtube and cant seem to find the right answer

You wouldn't want to do the clean color change method if doing this in half double crochets because once you change colors, you have to slip stitch. The half double is a taller stitch than a single crochet so that slip stitch is going to make your work uneven. I'd suggest doing just a regular color change since the slip stitch is not used when changing colors. If you're trying to just do a color change while making half double crochets, you're going to make the half double like normal but once you get to that final yarn over, you bring in the new yarn and pull through the three loops on the hook. I hope that helps!

I think for those types of blankets you do just a regular color change so that they're more visible. The clean color change in this video includes a slip stitch after you've changed colors to eliminate the harsh change in color. I don't believe you do that those blanket patterns. I hope that helps!
