I bought this pattern yesterday as my first ever crochet garment. I have done a few granny square type of things before. I have seen people talking about the importance of the (in)famous gauge, and to be honest I just wanted to skip it and jump right into the project 😊 But I decided to be a good girl and do “this gauge thing” LOL And boy am I glad that I did. In my country we don’t have the same crochet needles that you have in the US. The pattern recommended 4.25. Where I live I can buy 4.0 or 4.5. Since the closest size that fit me seems slightly too big, I chose to go with 4.0. Then I started my little gauge. My biggest discovery that I am soooooo happy I found out before I started the main project is that I struggle with keeping up with the number of stitches, so they decrease with almost every single row. So I will need the support of stitch markers to make sure I get that final stitch and don’t end up with a halter neck that don’t even cover my… top part LOL The second thing I discovered is that with the actually rather thin cotton yarn I have, that should be equivalent to the fingering weight yarn in this pattern, my 4 inches was reached in 11 rows, and not in 12 as the pattern indicated for the gauge. The reason I write this is that I hope that it will help other newbie garment crocheters to see why it’s useful to make the gauge. I’m now on my way to redo the gauge with a 3.5 hook to see if I can get my 12 rows within 4 inches. Then I will have to see what I’ll do with the number of stitches across.

I'm in the process of starting on this - and I love it. My only issue is the end of the rows. Do I go into the chain below for the final stitch? Or do I leave it just in the last stitch from the row below? I've done almost 3 repetitions and my ends are looking slightly wonky :( Thank you xx
@ExpressionFiberArts8 ай бұрын
Hi there, you'll put your final stitch into the final chain-3 from below since the ch-3 counts a stitch. And I wouldn't worry to much about it looking wonky since you will block the pieces before seaming them together which will straighten the edges out. I hope this is helpful. Have a nice day! 💕

Hello what other yarn could I substitute and what hooks should I use. Thank soo much.. size 22x I’m sure I would hv to go up a size? I appreciate yall
@ExpressionFiberArts12 күн бұрын
You can find all this information on our website or when downloading the pattern from the pattern page here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/cirrus.html The link is usually also given in the description box below the tutorial. The original sample was designed for a Fingering weight so any fingering weight can be used as a substitute. Regarding hook size recommended is an US Size G (4.25 mm) but I'd swatch to make gauge. I hope this answers your question. Have a lovely day. 💜

Hello, New to crocheting, but I would love to try this pattern. I'm looking at the luster sport yarn on your website. Would that work for this project? I notice that the recommended hook size is different. Thanks
@ExpressionFiberArts Жыл бұрын
Hi there, thank you for your question. Luster Sport could work for this project but you will need to adjust your hook size (smaller hook) to make gauge. The yarn suggested for this design is Fingering weight and Luster Sport is Sport weight, which is a bit thicker than Fingering. Just make a swatch with the suggested hook first and check where you're at and then go from there. I hope this helps. 💕

How thick is fingerling yarn or what other yarn can be used instead?
@ExpressionFiberArts3 жыл бұрын
Generally, you can substitute a sock-weight yarn for anything that calls for fingering weight. You could also use any other fingering weight yarn than the Glimmer Fingering used in the Cirrus top. Using the standardized yarn weight system, the Glimmer Fingering would fall somewhere between a superfine (1) and a fine (2).

Fabulous! Looking for something easy to make for my first clothing project (not including hats and scarves) and so simple too. I'm assuming the yarn used would make a big difference. I might try it with a cotton yarn to wear day time. And as it's only 2 rectangles sewn together I've suddenly got loads of ideas for different stitch patterns. I might have to start making stuff for my girls, smaller and quicker and they're young enough to not be too picky, in fact they'll love it! 😁

I love the top and started working on it, but I’m finding that row 5 is difficult to crochet onto row 4. Where exactly did place the stitches for r5?
@ExpressionFiberArts3 ай бұрын
I agree, crocheting into the chain stitch of the chain space is not always easy. I'd recommend crochet into the dc of the previous row and then into the chain space instead of the stitch that will make it easier to place your stitches. I hope this explains it. would i be able to use double knitting wool or would that be too thick thank you
@ExpressionFiberArts4 жыл бұрын
You could certainly try. Since it is a rectangle, you can make it any size. You'll just need to do a bit of math and adjust your stitch count accordingly so you end up with the correct size rectangle for your intended size. Hope this helps!

Do I have to pay for the downloadable pattern since I’m a larger size? I wish this were an accessible pattern for plus sizes but the free version is only for small sizes.

You can find all this information on the pattern page here: www.expressionfiberarts.com/products/cirrus.html The link is usually also given in the description box below the tutorial. The pattern is written for sizes X-Small, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large, 2X-Large, 3X-Large to 4X-Large. BTW the tutorial only provides part of the pattern but not the full instructions, so any size will need eventually to download the full pattern from the website. I hope this answers your question. 💜

So yes, plus size people have to pay while the small size people can use this free video.
