I absolutely love this tutorial for this pattern! The first time I made it, the medium was wayyy too big for my medium dog who is about the size of the schnauzer pictured on the pattern sheet. So I’ve made modifications here and there to adjust the sizing, but I wish I knew what I was doing wrong since I followed the pattern exactly. Regardless, it’s a great pattern and this was such a thorough tutorial, thank you!

❣ The SIZE is often not ok for ur dog but EASY to ADAPT. Some dogs have bigger heads, chests or are longer. Start with collar ribbon, hold it together can u pull it over the head? Measure the chest behind the front leg and adapt, longer body like a dachshund adapt. Easy to customize. Thanks Mickey for detailed crochet❣

The reason they have you chain before turning is not because it’s an older pattern. It’s because when you’re doing a color change every row, you’re finishing the final yarn over of the last stitch with the new color, and chaining helps to secure it.

Update: the belly needs to be shorter for a male. 1 less row between nexk and beginning of the arm holes. Simple fix. Dont tie off before you check it is my suggestion. Orig post: Anyone made this for a dachshund yet? Friend says something fits right and her baby is freezing.

Thanks for the pattern! I’m working on a Large size and am having some trouble with the shape leg opening step… In the written pattern, first side total is 12dc but second side is 10dc. If I follow and continue this, at the joining row, I’m unable to get the total 96dc.. Am I meant to do 12dc for second leg opening side?

I am a little confused on the belly. I am doing the extra large, the question is on the next row of belly, where it says repeat last row 11 more times but after decreasing two rows, when I measure from 1st row after neck ribbing, I am at 26 inches. Do I stop there?

I don't know what DK is. Im unsure. There is a gauge on the pattern if you want to try and match it. Changing the yarn thickness will require the pattern to be re-written if that's what you are asking for.

@@TheCrochetCrowd thank you for confirming! A few more questions please! (I'm okay with stitches, but find instructions so confusing!) I'm doing the stripe pattern. I've done the neck band and have started the body. I've done Row 1 in the Main Colour, same as the neck. At the end of Row 1 it says to Join A. First query: I'm guessing this means fasten off the Main Colour and join my first contrasting colour (A) for Row 2? Like you I will then turn and chain, in this case in the new colour. Second question: as the instructions don't say when to join colours B, C, D & E colours, I'm guessing I simply continue my colour sequence with every single row - not every 2 or 3 rows? I only ask because it doesn't state when to introduce the sequential colours other than as a generic instruction at the beginning. So finally, after Row 2 (in colour A), we repeat this row 2 more times (for small dog) - which if I do these in the next 2 colours B and C, means I am then starting the Leg Opening in colour D. Is this right?! Thanks so much!

The printed pattern has different stitch counts for the second side except for the small size. I’m making the large size & the stitch count for the first side is 12 dc, and for the second side, its only 10 dc. That leaves 2 unused dc. For the XL size, its a difference of 3 dc. Is there a reason to not have the sides matching in width?

When I switch colors I carry the end within the stitches, but I have noticed that these "tails" are poking out of the finished blanket. What is the best way to switch colors? Make a knot?

I would fasten the yarn off and weave in the tails. Start with the new colour from scratch and then weave in the tails. Use a tapestry needle for the absolute best results.

When it comes to the measurements... when it says chest, I'm assuming it means like around there belly?! Cause my 2 girls are very similar sizes, but one is bigger than the other by a few inches, but still not big enough to be considered a large. I'm worried it's gonna be too big for the smaller dog, but then too small for our larger dog. I making one for each of them, and just hoping hoping for the best! I’m confused about the hook sizes. Maybe it’s because I haven’t done crochet in a few years? You’re saying the 4.0 is an F size. But my hooks say 3.75 F? Then there is 4.0 G, 4.5 7 and the K hook is now just a 7 mm no letter. Did they change the sizing system? I noticed that Boye and Susan Bates sometimes have different numbering. @@kimberlybailey7459 A G is usually a 4.0 mm hook. The 4.5 mm is a #7 hook, in between a g and 5.0 H hook. I don’t see many patterns calling for an F or #7. A lot of the crochet hook sets I’ve seen don’t include them.

You have to measure under the chest just behind the front legs over the dog. Take the circumference of the chest and you will know the size. Every dog is different. So I don't have a concrete answer for each species.

You will measure your dog's chest to determine which size would work best. If your dog is in-between the two sizes, you may need to work out the stitching to make it work for your pup. If you don't wish to try to make it work for your pup, I would suggest going with the larger size, so it is easier to get on and off them. I had an odd shaped dog I used to make sweaters for. It took some practice and testing to get the right fit for her. I wish you happy stitching finding the right fit for your puppy. :D

Ok, so I am currently doing the Medium sized sweater and I just finished making the length on it to the 7" mark. It is EXACTLY 7" but I ended on the right side so when I turn I will be on the "wrong" side. Is this really that big of a deal? I know you expressed in the video that you should try to do it the opposite way i have...but I'm curious as to why? What is the consequence of continuing in this fashion? o.o I'm just honestly curious, I didn't want to end up making the sweater too long or too short...and my last row happens to be on the wrong side :(
