Although I know how to do only the basics in crochet and am really an avid knitter, I was really interested in your tutorial for the tiny granny square blanket! I have quite a few leftover bits of sock yarn and have been thinking of the best way to utilize every scrap. A granny square blanket has crossed my mind more than once, but when I saw the mini-granny squares that are joined as you go, I was “hooked!” (Yes, pun very much intended!). Thanks for the tutorial. 🤗

I am an avid sock knitter (and crochet blanket maker) and I have a HUGE sock-yarn-leftover-stash. I've tried mitred squares to use it up but it just doesn't sit with me, I cant get into any kind of rhythm with it so I've just been hoarding my scraps. NOT ONCE have I thought about crocheting with it! DUH!! Talk about a face-palm moment. My scraps are mostly dark colours but who cares, it'll keep us cosy on the sofa. I seem to handle UK and US crochet terms quite well, my brain just switches into US-mode or UK-mode as appropriate but it is nice to hear the UK terms for sure. Thanks for the inspiration, I am also "hooked" ;-)

Thank you! I’ve also tried knitting a mitred square blanket and couldn’t get into the rhythm of it either, which is a shame as I’ve seen some that look lovely! ☺️

I wish I could say I'm an avid sock knitter because I absolutely love starting socks. I love the 2x2 rib as I haven't caught on well too 1x1 but I'm so intimidated by the heel regardless of having completed 4 pairs beautifully. It's almost an irrational fear, isn't that strange. I'd have a huge stash of sock yarn as well. It's been knitted legwarmers and crocheted dishcloths for me 😮💨

A friend has done this with knit mitered squares with sock yarn for her daughters for when they eventually fly away to college or whatever. Each year she has edged the prior year’s progress with a few rows of a solid color yarn that is rather dark and an easy to acquire color for matching over time. She has made them to be quite large now and they look great, like yours which reminded me of them. Her name is She Must Knit on here.

In the first corner of each square I do a chain four (one stitch plus a chain space) as I find this keeps it neater - you can do a chain five (one stitch plus two chains) if you prefer though. Sorry if that’s not what you meant! But let me know if not and I’ll see if I can help you out ☺️

Q. When you came to end of joining that first side you slip stitched into the corner space and then did one chain. Is that one chain the corner space for that corner? Because when each square is started you chain 4. And at the end of row one you slip stitch into the third chain. But at each corner after we chain 2. So first corner 1 chain and the next 3 corners 2 chains. Is that correct? Thank you
