Hello!! My name is Sara and welcome to my channel Crochet for Baby. In today's tutorial I will show you how to crochet this fast and easy star stitch crochet beani hat for newborn baby. You can also make it in any size for any age just look at the above information for standard hat circumference measurements along with height of hat for each age. When making this hat please make sure your chain ends in an odd number like 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9. Also start to reduce when you have 3.5 to 5cm left from total height.
For this crochet hat tutorial I used light #3 baby yarn and a 3.5mm crochet hook. I made this hat using stitch #159.

I made the hat and made it bigger. The hat band was rounded and not straight down like yours. I measured the chain for a 6 to 9 months. I do better when I know how many chains are in the starting chain. I will try again.

Could you please give me some advice? I am using a 100% cotton worsted weight 4 with a 3.50 mm hook. I am doing the 44-45 cm 6-9 months and my starting chain has 83 chains. Does the weight of the yarn make a difference in the size? With what I am using can you please help me understand how I do not end up with a hat that is curved like a rain bonnet? My son says my cap looks like paddington the bear's rain cap.

Hello. I’ve updated the size measurements for this hat. Perhaps that will help. I think that since you’re using cotton yarn there is no stretch and that could be the reason. Also the hook you’re using makes a stiffer fabric because it’s too small. What is the recommended hook size for the yarn you’re using?

If you use a 4.5mm hook and make it in the same way your hat will come out bigger for approximately that size.

Hi Sara, can you help me a little with the sizes. I used merino superwash wool for size 4mm needles/hooks and I used 5.50mm hook for this project to get a bigger size but I still got so small size hat = circumference 36cm and height 14cm like for 1 month old. Do I use even bigger size hook or do I do more foundation chains? I want to do a 3-6months size hat.
