How to Crochet: Part 1, Volume One Afghan Square | Stitch Sampler Afghan Square | EyeLoveKnots

I just love the look of sampler stitch projects, and have been dreaming up ways to create my own. I’ve combined 6 fun stitch patterns together to create this 12″ afghan square full of lovely textures.
I’ve joined The Unraveled Mitten, and 17 other crochet designers in the 2023 Stash Busting Crochet Along, and I’m so excited to be a part of it! Every other week, a new 12″ afghan square design will be released by a different designer, and in the end, there will be 20 different afghan squares to sew together to create a one of a kind afghan. You'll need some worsted weight yarn - I am using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. You'll also need an H8/5mm crochet hook, and tapestry needle.
The solid colored square is the Aran colorway.
The tropical colored square is Shocking Pink, Bright Yarn, Tea Leaf, Pumpkin, Turqua, Spring Green and White.
The retro colored square is Spring Green, Pool, Carrot, Cherry Red, Gold, Bright Yellow and Buff.
If you wanted to use a wool instead, some great yarns I recommend are WeCrochet Swish (affiliate link: shrsl.com/38yuc), and Lion Brand Wool Ease (affiliate link: shrsl.com/2bnl2).

I love this sampler block! Your Octavia section looks like fence posts and the bobbles look like trees. They make me think little crocheted little sheep appliques would be so fitting. This is so pretty!

Hi, Thank you for your tutorial . If I want make a blanket with this pattaren I'll start with a chain of multiple of 40?

So glad you like it! I am working on a blanket myself in a chunkier yarn ❤️ This is my favorite combination! I actually just finished it, but still need to figure out the stitching for the different sizes. The stitch count is a little tricky. I don't know if a multiple of 40 would work without doing some math. I find that I always have to adjust it depending on the size I'm making because it has to be an odd number for the 2nd section, a multiple of 3 for the 3rd section, in the 4th section I do an even number of half double crochets in each part including the beginning and end and a similar concept for the bobbles and then ends with an even number for the last section so... it's a bit involved, and I usually sit down with pencil and paper and play around with my counts depending on the size I want. In the end, the shaping works out, and I just make sure my total stitch count in each section stays close to one another so there aren't large dips along the edges. With that said, I would probably start with an odd number that is 1-2 stitches away from a multiple of 3. That would allow you to work the first 2 sections, then you will most likely need to adjust from there. Adjust the length as you go as well dividing your desired length by each section (subject for border before dividing), and then you may end up stopping a row before or after that measurement as some of the stitch patterns need to be worked from a specific side, like the second section.
