How to Crochet Star Stitch Coasters

Need a crochet gift quick? How about a cute star stitch coaster?
In this video I'll show you how to crochet these star stitch coasters. These are great gifts for family, friends, teachers, and others. They are made with 3 rounds of double crochet stitches, followed by a crochet star stitch edging.
I'm using a size G 4 mm and H 5 mm crochet hook for my sample and worsted weight 100% cotton yarn. I'm using the G 4 mm crochet hook for the center and the H 5 mm crochet hook for the edging. Feel free to use any other size yarn and hook that is comfortable for you.

Could you use a magic ring as a start as well besides chaining and slip stitch? I love watching your videos and have many saved to try later ☺️

You can, however, with 12 double crochet stitches in the ring, I don't always trust a magic ring not to come apart no matter how tightly it is secured, especially with something like a coaster that will be washed more often than say, a crochet flower. I generally use magic rings with smaller amount of stitches like 6 single crochet stitches in traditional crochet toys (amigurumi).

Most of the time you use a coaster to keep the condensation from damaging a table. Condensation is clean water and generally evaporates quickly. If the coaster gets stained with coffee, just wash it.
