How to Crop a Layer in Photoshop

In this beginner Adobe Photoshop tutorial, learn how to crop layers in Photoshop. We don't use the crop tool to crop layers, instead we create layer masks that act as windows into sections of our layers. If you want to crop a layer in Photoshop, then this tutorial is for you!

when I go to transform the mask instead of allowing me to move/transform just the area I masked, it's selecting the entire image. do you know why that's happening?

By doing it manually it's still highly inaccurate, what if I want the layer to be exactly as wide as the original image? By doing it with that tool it's nearly impossible to get it precisely down to the pixel. Please let me know if you have a solution to this.
