Nice video. Full of useful information. Regarding undoing your hip belt: The big issue with falling into the water and not being able to remove your pack, is that it will act as a floatation device and force you float head down in the water. Unable to raise your head or twist your body around so you can get air. Some folks now advocate that you keep your pack tight, only undoing your chest strap. The reason being that you might be more likely to fall if your pack shifts and changes your balance point. This is more likely to happen if you have items attached to the bottom of your pack (foam pad/tent/etc) and the moving water suddenly hits those items. Or if you slip and the pack swings away from your body. YMMV ~S

Great info! I’m wondering if you have any experience hiking with kids? I’m looking for videos on that. Trying to get my 9 year old son more interested in going hiking with me. He doesn’t mind short hikes but he kind of loses interest after a couple hours and id love to get him on an overnight trip here and there. 😊

If in turbulent water that is carrying you down stream - go belly up and feet first to minimize risk of head knocks or vital organ strikes. If any of this information struck you as epiphany-level information, please stay out of the wilderness :P
