I have a micro crested gecko that is the size of a newly hatched. Bean beetles are the perfect size.

I try and keep the beans under an inch deep, more than that and they have trouble digging through them. Also, I start cultures once every 1-2 weeks to keep steady numbers.
@TCSDartFrogs5 жыл бұрын
I've never had problems with cultures with a depth more than one inch but I usually don't make them much deeper, I start cultures every couple weeks as well.

Brilliant thank you and how long will 1kg bag of beans last there so tiny I thought they be bigger. But the smaller they are the more the food last

Great video. I've not been much of a fan of bean beetles myself. It just seems they are mostly shell and not much protein. What are your thoughts?
@TCSDartFrogs5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I find that they are great for putting weight on larger frogs but I do use them sparingly as overfeeding could possibly lead to digestive problems in the long run.

Any luck feeding these two adult crested gecko? I’m completely blind so I didn’t see the size. How big do they get? Half an inch or watt?

If you keep the lid on, won't the beetles die due to lack of oxygen?

Same thing for grain weevils?
@TCSDartFrogs4 жыл бұрын
I've never cultured grain weevils but I believe they would probably eat flour or any dry grain rather than beans.

hi, can these beetles be used as fish feed?
@fredflintstone15473 жыл бұрын
i would only use the larvae, the beetles are too hard shelled, unless you have fish big eenough to swallow them whole. The beetles are also kind of foul smelling and gross.

Do bean beetles work for thumb nail dart frogs or only larger species?
@TCSDartFrogs5 жыл бұрын
I would not recommend feeding bean beetles to thumbnail species as they are very hard shelled and could lead to digestive problems in smaller frogs, I mainly feed the beetles to my adult tinctorius, auratus, leucomelas, and phyllobates.

ive never kept amphibians, but I have cultured beetles to feed fish and birds and in my experience the larvae is what is fed to critters, not the beetles. The beetles are foul and have a super hard shell and little nutrition compared to the larvae
@imhaku70015 жыл бұрын
They aren’t good for Amphibians because their shell is to hard. I live in Germany and here we don’t feed Beetles. They getting Problems with their stomach. Greeting

Thanks! I know that an excess of beetles can be bad for them and I do use them sparingly but I've been feeding my frogs bean beetles for a number of years without any ill side effects. I also know many other hobbyists who use them on a regular basis and have not heard of any issues. I do recommend only feeding them to larger dendrobatids though.
