Another question for you, Jeff. Just like your tank, I imagine some of the water will evaporate. Do I need to top off with fresh RODI water?

Made this exact setup with same light. Spoke with several people on some other forums that said this light will not be powerful enough to make dense cultures. Can you challenge those assumptions? What was your turnout?

Bleach is what I used when I cultured. Just add it to the water and let it bubble for 10 minutes, then add enough dechlorinator to neutralize the bleach. Let that bubble for like another 10 minutes and inoculate as normal.

Hey man. I've seen some people just putting their old filter floss in some saltwater and setting it out in the sun and it seems to be working for them to produce phyto. Any thoughts?

Great video Jeff! You know what is crazy....I'm actually making a revised video on this same topic right now as well. I can already tell your vid will grab the top spot and pass mine for the good key phrases! Lol. Your channel is a beast!! You got this KZbin thing figured out buddy. Happy reefing bud. I love your vids, you have taught me so much over the years and are an inspiration to work hard at becoming a successful KZbinr! 👊✌

What would happen if you didn’t split your culture every week? Say you are producing way more than you need. Can you let it continue to sit with the air flowing and the light on but not splitting or feeding it and it will be fine until you’re ready to split? Or is it better to put it in to the fridge until you’re ready to split?
@colbylacy86512 жыл бұрын

So ive tried to google this but i guess it would be easier to just ask here, do you NEED to split your cultures? My wants are less as a food source for pods and more of a want to produce oxygen. I dont know if im missing a step in my thinking. Id appreciate some more info?
@vishwassharma77413 жыл бұрын

can you use less culture to start new culture. Or do you need to do the 2 to 1 ratio to start
@kilesprofit89173 жыл бұрын
so long as you have a live cell in the starter culture you can ignore the 2:1 ratio, however, it will take longer to grow depending on how little phytoplankton you add

"I'm just going to use this funnel so I don't make a complete mess" . . . . 2 seconds later spills everywhere HAHAHAHA
@northfloridafungi93364 жыл бұрын
that is not sterilization, its sanitization. sterilizing can only be done with an autoclave. I grow mushrooms and raise phytoplankton for a living and have for many years. I sterilize my jars (glass only) by cooking for 45 minutes at 15psi in a pressure canner.
