This year (my first for garlic) I gave the harvested bulbs a quick rinse with the hose before hanging them in the greenhouse. So far, the few we've used for cooking have been delicious! There's still ten more drying, and I'll bring them in soon. Thanks for the video!

Cheers, thanks for watching!! Watch out with that water though....just like with potatoes a dry brushing is better than using water for the long term. 🙂

You remove the first and sometimes the second layers of paper coating. This removal of those protective layers mean the Garlic cannot resist pathogens as well. I wear cloth gloves to clean the bulbs as soon as I harvest them. I also keep a fine brush on hand This way minimal layers of the garlic’s protective paper leaves are lost and it certainly will store longer. The best storage system is to learn how to make a French braid. Hang the finished braids from the upper part of a cold room. For a city guy you know a fair bit. Cheers from Sunny Alberta!
@TheRipeTomatoFarms

Great stuff! Only problem is French Braids don't work for hardneck garlic, the kind grown in Canada. :-)

@@TheRipeTomatoFarms If you make the braid three days after harvesting it will still be plenty pliable .Do you really believe folks in Hungary,where plenty of Hardneck is grown don’t braid garlic?

Awesome janice!! Green onions don't get cured as they are eaten fresh. But they do keep coming back to life even after being cut down if a bit of the white stem is left behind! 🙂

You mentioned that garlic needs to be stored in a cool, dry place. I could store it in my garage, but i live close to the Canadian border. In winter temps drop well below freezing. Will the extreme cold freeze and destroy the garlic?
@aliciastanley5582
@aliciastanley5582 11 ай бұрын
What does that mean just store in a cool fry place ? I really want to see exactly how you do that. Please show us
@TheRipeTomatoFarms
@TheRipeTomatoFarms 11 ай бұрын
It means exactly that. 1:37 you can see it in action. Don't overcomplicate it. Its literally just hanging garlic in a dry area to fully cure.

I am struggling with caterpillars! Ive tried covering my lettuce/sprouts plants, bought the organic spray, I've used DE, I've tried soap water. Absolutely nothing has helped it's ridiculous. I didn't get any lettuce, collard greens this yr and it looks like they've gotten my brussel sprouts plants too!

Yes, you can freeze the completely cleaned cloves. They do get a little mushy like onions do, but still completely edible!

I froze some of my hardneck garlic because I had so much and wanted to make sure I had garlic past the 6 month mark. So I used fresh for my first 6 months and then started using my frozen garlic to last me till my next harvest mis summer, that way I never have to buy garlic again.
