I quickly moved him to hospital tank , after reading comments on this video by you I added Epsom salt and gave boiled green peas , hoping he would eat . Damn he pounced on it and after few munches he was trying to swim straight ,within 1 hour result shown , morning I went to see he was fine swimming straight , not even once he swim upside down , gave boiled peas again , he was munching happily eventually he came near tank responding to my fingers . Gonna keep him one more day in hospital tank with peas ,gonna do water change , to lessen medicine . Thanks bro .btw fault was I feed some floating pellets by mistake which I am gonna stop . God bless bro .

Great job man. I'm glad he's ok and healthy again. What you can do is soak the pellets in aquarium water for a minute to get all the air out and then feed it to your goldfish. That way they won't get the swimbladder disease.

For anyone still watching this video: -- If you have a heater in your tank (like me): Raise it up by 5 degrees, the heat will stop the bacteria from growing and it'll help the food move through the goldfish -- Daily water changes (getting rid of the ammonia, bacteria, etc) -- Put a tea spoon of dissolved epsom salt : You can also use aquarium salt ( Read the packaging for the dosage of your tank usually though! ) ( I have never tried the aquarium salt, but i can speak for the epsom. The magnesium pulls the bad things out, and put good things in) Hope this helps some goldfish babs out there!

hey i need help with my flowerhorn can you help me??
@kenaultman74992 жыл бұрын
@@shreeyamaskey7731 I hope you figured it out and didn't listen to too many people here. No offense, but this is one of the worst comment sections I've seen as far as information goes. I have a degree in biology, and would be more than happy to help you if you're still having problems. This person has like 20+ goldfish in what appears to be a 29g tank. Show me any objective source that says thay is remotely OK for this species of fish. It's 30g for one, and 20g fish each one you add after that. Most people's goldfish tanks are fatally overstocked. That's why you don't see nice 15 year old, big as a football, goldfish on KZbin. Most of the time it's like this, with a bunch of barely even a year old fish. Ffs they mixed plecos, a tropical fish, with goldfish, a coldwater fish. If he has a heater, the gf are too hot. If he doesn't, the plecos are too cold. Pick one... The biggest issue I see people have, including this video above, is simply not having a big enough tank, or enough biological filtration to effectively filter ammonia. You get gas/swim bladder disorders when nitrogen/ammonia keep spiking up and down, up and down, repeat. This is from, again, small tank and too small of a filter. The nitrogen is high, you do a water change, and it drops almost in half. Within a couple days, the nitrogen is back up, water change, back down. This constant fluctuation in environment makes it so the fish can't regulate their own buoyancy. With the tank in the video, it is physically impossible to harbor enough bacteria to take care of the bio load being produced. Not, it may be too much. Scientifically, it is IMPOSSIBLE. Here's the fix for 95% of aquarium hobbyists troubles. Double your tank size, not fish stock. Get a canister filter. Then, throw away all the media they give you other than the foam. Lol. Now, get some ceramic or sinted glass biological filter media. Yes, it's more expensive than foam and the other stuff. But, it's also what works, and that's why they don't give it to you. Set the canister up in the order so that the water hits the foam FIRST. You need the water to be clean of debris before it gets to the ceramic or sinted glass biological media. Otherwise, the pores that all the bacteria you want grows in, will clog. You can add a water moved and aeration if needed. Next, soak the fish food in the water out of the aquarium before feeding them. Most of the food is freeze dried and can expand when the fish eats it. Avoid that by soaking the food first so it isn't just a hard pellet sitting in their digestive tract. Do water changes at least once per week. In about 2 months, your fish will be fine. There are no quick fixes for this. I think a lot of pet stores don't want people to be knowledgeable on this subject so they keep buying more crap to chase problems that keep arising. Tldr. Double your tank size. Get a canister filter and fill it in the order above, with this stuff. greatwaveeng.com/ Do water changes once a week, twice won't hurt early on before the cycle starts. Start watching the pond guru videos to be educated on the subject yourself. If your fish is floating funny it's an ammonia/nitrogen issue. Yes, you can fix it with peas temporarily by forcing them to acclimate faster. But, it's only temporary and will keep happening until you fix the core issue. Ammonia and a properly cycled tank. A basic filter or two from the pet store isn't enough for most lightly stocked community tanks. You need to take the stuff out, because it's cheap crap, and use better media that will actually harbor enough beneficial bacteria to keep the tank cycled. Peace.

I started doing it in hopes that it might could work...unfortunatly my fish named anagasia didn't make it... I left my house and my sister took care of her but when I came back i watched this video in hopes of helping her but it was nothing I could do at that point , my sister told me that she was swiming like that all weekend but when I came back and talked to her she starts swiming normally as she does and I was very happy about it , in the next minute she passed away and I think that she was wanting for me to say goodbye idk , I was so sad that I even almost cried im front of my family and shit but yeah she was a fish , and she was an animal but I feel like she was so human in her feelings and she is a fish that I will always remenber after all , I'm sad for my fish but I'm also really happy for other people fish that got better, I think that when your fish passes away you realize that it was not just a fish but a living being with feelings and that we can also have strong feelings for them.

@MauriceMccomie5 жыл бұрын
I am sorry for getting back to you so late, somehow I missed this notification. Yes, it sounds like your fish has a swim bladder issue, hopefully, this would help. If not and it's an extreme case, sometimes there's nothing we can do. Try the peas first and hopefully it helps him pass the blockage, you can also add some epsom salts to the water to help him as well. That's a dosage of 1 tablespoon to 5 gallons of water in the aquarium. Try as best as you can and even treat him twice, don't feed him anything but the green peas and I hope that does the trick. Euthanasia is always a last resort. Also, to avoid your other fish from getting swim bladder disease, soak their food in tank water for about a minute before feeding it to them. This allows the food to be soaked in water and all the air can get out of the food before it goes in your fish. The fish gulping at the surface causes them to suck air into their digestive systems and causes the swim bladder disease. I hope your lil guy is ok.
@megasuperawesomestuf5 жыл бұрын

@@Kate-yc5ks my fish has started doing this recently, but is recovering! I hope for the best with your fish too. this may be a bit of a slow response but definitely follow what the video says. If you can seperate the sick fish in its own 'hospital' tank and give it melafix, aquarium salt aswell as the pea feedings. it should recover nicely! Remember to wash your ornaments and pump in their own fish tank water to ensure tap water doesn't kill the good bacteria. And having a clean tank gives your fish the best chance of healing. Also the earlier you catch it and start treatment the better. Good luck!

@MauriceMccomie2 жыл бұрын
Hi. If the pellets are floating pellets, he's taking air in when he's gulping the pellets off the surface. That air in his system gives him swim bladder disease and causes him to float. The peas clears the air out of him. To avoid this, soak his pellets in tank water for a minute before feeding. It'll remove the air from the pellet and make the pellets sink so your goldfish can eat it below the surface and no air would get in his system. That should solve the problem.

I'd say the biggest issue is over stock. That's what's causing it anyways. You can't keep 20+ goldfish and plecos in a tank under 250g. Nitrogen will be off the charts. Yes, the peas fixed it. But, I'd bet it comes back because the tank is too SMALL. Beginners mistake. I keep 2 in a 125g, and they still spike the ammonia all the time. That's with a 4 tray canister filter, two Cascade 600 internal filters running, all loaded to the brim with biohome ultra media, with 2 30% water changes per week. Don't come at me saying, I've done this forever how dare you! Sure sure... Looks like the oldest one you've got in there is 1.5 years old. Hmm... That's not an accident. My oldest just turned 6, and is damn near the size of a football now. That's how big these get. So, don't tell me you're going to grow those all out to adulthood while they thrive. 20 or so 8-12 inch fish, plecos even bigger, are just going to get sick and die well before that. That's WHY you are having gas issues with your fish. It's the nitrogen/ammonia. Sorry, it isn't physically/biologically even possible to raise to raise those fish in that set up. Source. Am a bioloist. Either get rid of 90% of the fish. Or, get a 250 gallon. You've got too much wrong here. You don't have enough biological filtration, it isn't possible with that set up. You are mixing warm water/tropical plecos with cold water fish, goldfish. I'm guessing, because you get algae. That's because the tank is too small, and your filter set up is also too small to harbor the necessary amount of beneficial bacteria to reduce the ammonia to a non toxic level. If you have a properly cycled tank, there wouldn't be algae. The bacteria would use the ammonia before the algae had a chance.

@MauriceMccomie5 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to say this, but not all fish that swim on their sides have swim bladder disease. Some especially the chronic ones may have an internal issue where their organs are malfunctioning and they can't be corrected with green peas. What you can do to avoid the issue is to soak their food for a minute in tank water before you feed them. This way it limits the amount of air going into their digestive system. It would help a bit but if the fish has an internal issue they would still swim on their sides no matter what you do.

I have also noticed that my fish is kind of floating and sinking and stays mainly at the bottom, however there are no signs of enlarged stomach. Im new to fish keeping and have been researching and im not sure what to do. Another question is if i tried green peas would i only feed my fish green peas for a few days or also feed it food (ex. The sinking pellets i have been using).
@MauriceMccomie5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kennady, I need to ask what kind of substrate do you have? I ask because goldfish scavenge a lot for food and I've had cases where they ate my sand and got "Heavy" so they always sat on the sand bed not swimming much. I have not found a cure for that as yet and all the affected fish died. If your fish is still eating, just try feeding the pinched green peas for 3 days and see if it helps. The peas clear their digestive tracks and helps them swim better. I hope it helps your fish.

Mine has this disease I believe but it’s not moving, it’s upside down and still breathing, my tank is only 1 week old. Fish only been in here for 4 days. My guppy was completely healthy. Then today I find it at the bottom breathing but not moving, and upside down. I noticed the filter push him to the top and my platy noticed he wasn’t moving so he started to nibble at my guppy. I had to take out my guppy so he didn’t get eaten but don’t know what to do. I don’t have a hospital tank I just filled a plastic bowl with some of the aquarium water. My house is pretty much the same temperature as the water so I hope he doesn’t die. I don’t think he will eat the pea because he’s upside down and I gave him a flake & he didn’t eat it so I don’t know what to do! Help please

Mine has been floating upside down for months, should I kill it or let it suffer?

I have a orange telescope probably like 7 inches and I can't tell if he has it or not he is kind of swimming with his face down, not all the way down but like 15/20 degree angle and when he slowlu swims forward it looks like he is very slowlu going up but I'm not sure if that's just how he swims because of his eyes or wanting to have a better look, one of my goldfish I just put him down because I read online that other goldfish can also catch the illness, there was nothing I could do for him he was just floating 90% of the time not even trying

My fish now keeps spitting the peas out
@MauriceMccomie3 жыл бұрын
What you can do is after you pinch the shell off the peas you can mash the peas up a bit for the goldfish so it has a smaller bite-sized amount to go into its mouth.

Hello! My betta fish is encountering this issue. He kinda swims sideways and stays float on top. I barely got him a few months ago and I feel like he's encountering this issue because my siblings didn't take proper care for him like I asked while I was studying abroad. How many green peas should I feed him a day and for how many days? I have to feed him using tweezers because he can't swim downwards. Is there anything else I can provide him like medication or something?
@hijah245 жыл бұрын
Also he isn't gasping for air or anything either and doesn't have a loss of appetite.

So my fish was swimming like this too but at the bottom and I gave it peas and it’s laying there but breathing is that good?😬
@MauriceMccomie3 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to say it isn't :( Some goldfish get sand/substrate stuck in their digestive track also and they swim for a bit but they're heavy and almost always ends up sitting on the bottom of the tank. It happened to me twice and on both occasions, the fish eventually died within a day or two :( I hope this is not the case with your fish.

Am I able to give green peas to my Glow Fish?
@MauriceMccomie2 жыл бұрын
You can, once they eat it. For best results blend it to a smooth paste and then fees them as they have very small mouths

is swim bladder contagious because i’m new to this whole fish thing and i’m like 99.9% sure my fish has swim bladder but i think like my telescopes might have it too
@MauriceMccomie6 жыл бұрын
It's not contagious but other fish can get it if you feed them floating foods. If goldfish eat off the top of the water, air goes into their bladder causing the buoyancy issues.
@oliviarose20386 жыл бұрын
Maurice Aquariums thank you i just started feeding them floating pellets because i heard pellets were better for goldfish so i got them but i found out they float after i gave it to them
@MauriceMccomie6 жыл бұрын
@@oliviarose2038 that's ok, pellets are good but what you have to do, is soak the pellets in tank water for a minute or two before feeding your fish. This way the pellets sink and your fish don't gulp in air.

Thank you i was worried as my two oranda have this i have them in a smaller space (scared they may drown in 160ltr tank) with oxygen will do peas when back home

Do you microwave the peas or give them frozen??

What if my goldfish wont eat the peas?
@MauriceMccomie4 жыл бұрын
Then that's a bad case. You can treat the water with Epsom salts 1 tablespoon to every 5 gallons and hope it helps your goldfish pass the blockage.

Maurice Aquariums so do i just put the salt in or do i have to do anything special? Thanks

Dear brother thanks , Sinking food is best or floating for my gold fish ?
@MauriceMccomie5 жыл бұрын
My friend sinking food is best. It avoids them gulping air at the surface of the tank and getting swim bladder disease. Also, soak the pellets in tank water for a minute before feeding the goldfish. That would help prevent the disease also
