wow a tutorial that actually explains the task at hand with clear step by step instructions and takes the time to answer "why we do it this way"? is this real life? subbed and liked, i know this was probably not a short process for you kudos on being so detailed in such a lengthy project! Im going to attempt my own extension with nylon sleeves and i feel a little better about doing it correctly now. The heat shrink idea was probably the most helpful, i probably would have fought with the sleeve to push it into the large crimp section of the pin to secure it (and probably ruin the overall look).

Hey, Mike from Mod-One here... I can't say I agree with the way the sleeve is (or rather isn't) being melted to the terminals... the melt should be conical and tight around the core crimp of the terminals; there shouldn't be any movement of the sleeve at the ends. Heatshrink with a smaller diameter and/or higher shrink ratio would be the way to resolve the loose sleeving issue.

Looking forward to that. Also, do you have any take on my Seasonic X650 KM3 not having the 24-pin it was supposed to be shipped with? I think its a Japan surplus version but either way this came with this weird connector I think it is supposed to be an optional upgrade for a USB charger while your computer is off but I'd like it removed and I'll paint my cable black or sleeve them if I get a chance. imgur.com/a/A3sCs I'm also worried that this unit could be having faulty or not a Seasonic-grade capacitors used but it does perform as intended by Seasonic I suppose, it just shipped with this cable.

Would Poly Monofilament Support Wire be a good wire to sleeve up if you want a sleeved wire to be able to bend and stay in place and then bend back to another position and have it stay in place? if not do you happen to know what wire cable is good for that? i don't want to make a usb or anything of that sort but i just want to make a custom cool looking sleeved wire to hold an item in place and to have the flexibility to be able to move it in a different position with out it breaking due to often bending it.

If you want to just do extensions some pair of female and male connector will do just fine (you just need to get the name of your connector ex: 24pin atx). If you are doing customs for your psu specifically, that's the tricky part, since you really need to be careful because layouts can widely change even between a same brand/different revisions of a model

Great video, thanks for sharing some useful tips. In regard to making custom cables. I know PSU's tend to use different modular connectors. I was wondering if people tend to use the connectors from the stock cables or purchase new ones to connect their cables to the PSU?. I'm planning on making some custom cables for a Seasonic Prime Titanium PSU.
@v.aesthetic3764
@v.aesthetic3764 7 жыл бұрын
You can make a full, custom set that plugs directly in to your PSU, as long as you know the proper pin-out. That is very important. That is how I make most of my cables, but for the sake of simplicity, I used an extension in this video.
@Flam3h
@Flam3h 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. When doing this, would you normally buy new connectors (PSU end) or remove them from the stock cables?. Are there diagrams for the pin connections or would you just work them out from following individual wires from the stock cables?. Obviously 12v / 5v etc. has to be in a certain order for molex / SATA etc.

Hey bud can I ask you a quick question. I'm looking for a custom sleeved 12vhpwr cable for my build but I can't find the one I want anywhere although I have some extra cables from the pack I bought for my cpu and motherboard cables. I was wondering if it would be possible to remove the color cables that I want from the leftover 8pin cables that I have and then use them to replace the regular cables on the 12vhpwr plug? Is this possible?

awesome...but i didn't understand why you added the shrink wrap only to cut it away...was there a portion of it which stayed on the cable which i didn't see or was it just to squash the ends down for some strange reason....?

A quick question that´s been bothering me for ages... the cables come zigzag crossing wires etc from the original cables.. yours are easy 1.2.3.4 and so on and they look perfect... is there ANY difference what cable goes to what end? I remember regular 4 pin molex HAD to be red at one side, yellow on the other and two black cables inbetween... this is soo confusing for 24pins.. what goes where? Also GPU cables, can I just bring them straight or do I really need to know what cable goes to what end?
@v.aesthetic3764
@v.aesthetic3764 6 жыл бұрын
When you're making extensions, it's a simple 1 to 1 connection. If you're making full length custom cables, you have to know the specific pinout of your PSU and then you will have the cables crossing over like you mentioned.
@TheTanelChannel
@TheTanelChannel 6 жыл бұрын
Ahhh ofc... thank you so much! Really got confused :D BTW.. nobody has made a video how to unhook the cables that come out from the other side of an extension.. had to destroy a connector to see how the hell it was connecting :S the male port of the extender... still don´t know how to ply them open, there is zero room to get anything between those clamps.. easier to cut the wire off. PS!! Does it affect the signal much if I cut and solder wires?
