So just an idea/question, before you remove the nail polish, after using the qtips and wiping the residue off, could you feasibly just color across the letters and nail polish with a regular sharpie (not fine point) and then use the nailnpolish remover? Or does nail polish remover not work on sharpie?

The nail polish remover would just take the sharpie off too unfortunately, that would make it a lot easier!

Consider the following before deciding to etch chrome: Nickel-chrome plating involves electroplating a thin layer of nickel onto the item before the chrome layer is plated onto it.The chrome layer helps to protect against scratches and tarnish and adds to the corrosion resistance. So, a chrome layer is a very strong protection against corrosion and the chromed surfaces you etch will be more vulnerable to corrosion. Something to have in mind.
