Thanks for Sharing Kim. Lately, as I now have a Bandsaw Mill I've been using that to cut Blanks down to size and remove the Pith, then chainsaw them to length. For sealing I use old wax from my wife's candle's, just throw them into an old pot on the fireplace to melt the wax, and paint that on.
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP4 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea with the candle wax.. I hope to get a bansaw mill some day .. just need to convince the Boss :-) but she will come around at some point 😬 Thank you for watching .. have a great day and stay safe 😀😀
@DennisSuitters4 жыл бұрын
I learnt to use the candle wax from local guys that use a different type of Mill (Lucas Mill), when they would do unseasoned timber, they would coat the ends of the log with wax as it's quicker and easier than trying to coat each board after cutting.

Try and tighten the chainsaw chain slightly while sharpening, not so tight that its hard to spin but so it sits tighter on the bar as you stroke the file through. It will give a nicer edge and makes sharpening much easier

Hi, Kim...very good instructional video. I use Titebond glue, full strength, for sealing end grain...I’ve found it better than Anchorseal or paint at preventing splitting.
@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick.. Thank you very much for watching .. I do get some cracks sometimes with the mixture of 40 % water and 60 % glue but not much .. I would love to be able to use Tigetbond glue, but for some reason it have the same price as Gold pr. once here in Denmark 😂😂 but I will try to use clean glue next time and mixed glue and check the differens .. thank you for the tip .. Have a great day and stay safe 😀😀

I have also mixed the glue with some melted Parafin wax which is very inexpensive. Also, I have used the pruner sealer you can get at almost any hardware or nursery and it seals nicely but is a little tar like at first and black. When it dries it is easy to remove and seals tight.

Not lazy or cheap here. But I have found stacking rounds before ripping with chainsaw slows checking. I will alternate rounds once in while. It is like putting tree back together and one gets exercise when restacking rounds.

I use gloves when sharpening my chain as years ago, the file was a tad dull and slipped and I gashed the back of a finger. I also use kevlar chap pants, as a doc once told me that cuts are too common in rural folks. All in all, a great presentation. Thanks, Kim.

@@WOODTURNINGBYBRANDSTRUP Kim, I'm about to update this smallish Husqvarna saw for a larger Stihl for bucking bowl blanks. Firewood for a stove is one thing; blanks for outboard turning are quite another. Priorities. hahaha

With smaller diameter logs i just cut down the middle through the pith. I turn the rest off. I dont have much use for spindle blanks.

I use two different products to seal the blanks. One is Pentacryl which I used in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5K1o4WhhdWlm6c and the other I prefer is like what you have and we call it Anchorseal, which is a wax paint.
