Thank you so much!! Truly appreciate you showing how you create your own charm squares from yardage. I have so much fabric but have been afraid to cut into it as I couldn’t figure out the best method to efficiently and accurately make it work. You have no idea how helpful this video is!! Thank you again :)

Thank you so very much for this wonderful video! I've dabbled a bit in quilting about 15-20 years ago... picking it up again, and just could not see buying all those charm packs... now I really see that for what I want is to cut my own thanks to this wonderful tutorial!! For a skill building workshop, I was told to purchase 2 5inch charm packs and a design roll of 2.5" strips. I'm now off to see if you have a tutorial on that

So happy to hear that this was helpful to you., Michi. It certainly saves money cutting your own strips and squares. We don't have a video as yet on cutting the strips but we do have one on making a jelly roll quilt www.alandacraft.com/2015/08/21/jelly-roll-quilt-top-tutorial-quilting-for-beginners/

I've only seen two of your tutorials so I look forward to seeing more of your tutorials!!! They make me feel better about making some fat quarters and charm squares out of the fabric I find at work(I have a few ideas so far). I've never made my own quilt before but it's one of those things I want to try out.

Very good especially for newbies to vocabulary of "quilting".
@alandacraft5 жыл бұрын
Quilting certainly has a vocabulary of it's own. I remember when starting out being baffled by wof, and hst. Everybody talked about these but nobody said what they were, and then I stumbled upon a lady who happened to mention width of fabric and half square triangles. What a relief that was. I think we need a glossary of terms for newbies. :)

Hi Alanda, many thanks for your reply to my query. I’ve tried your video on my iPad with success! It must have been my iphone that was the problem. Its a great video!! I’m just starting out with my first quilt and aware of how critical precision cutting is, so thankyou so much!! I’ll be looking up more of your videos as I go along. 😃😃😃

Hi Alanda - Thank you for your great tutorials. First, I've never made a quilt, but am getting ready to do so. If I want 5" FINISHED squares, then I cut the fabric to 5-1/2" squares to allow for 1/4" seam allowance. Correct?
@alandacraft Жыл бұрын
That's exactly right Barbara 😊. I'm guessing you already have a pattern in mind, however, here is a simple pattern for a baby quilt using squares. Ours are 5" squares but the principle of putting it together is exactly the same, whatever sized squares you use. www.alandacraft.com/2021/07/12/beginner-patchwork-quilt-tutorial/

Great video Alanda, many thanks. Do you have any tips for what to do when your ruler is shorter than your fabric? I have some fat quarters to cut into charm squares, but only a 12" ruler...

What is the name for that acrylic ruler you are using? I need one but a bit smaller. Do you have a link? I'm using an old wooden ruler and sometimes I shred a bit off. BTW.. I'm a novice and just looking for a hobby.
