Because the skin is full of pesticides, fertilizers, feces and dirt, and you can get all of that on the flesh if you don't wash it thoroughly before peeling it. Or can you peel and cut a fruit without touching the inside?

WARNING! WARNING! There are two kinds of Dragon fruit, the sweet kind and the bland icky kind, unfortunately you can't really tell from the outside, so look for a sticker. Unfortunately the ones at Publix are the bland icky kind😝. It had some flavor that one can't describe but, the seeds were interesting and so was the texture. Might have to go to a fruit stand ( yay Florida has a lot of em) or to like whole foods or something. I will say this in the produce section at Publix there is some Dragon fruit juice ( mixed with something else) that is good.
