This video hass been very helpful! I realize it is a couple years old, but another option could be an oscillating tool. I've used mine to cut baseboards, electrical box holes, and tons of other fine cuts. Super versatile tool. Have a wonderful day!

I actually did exactly this recently, needed to take a sliver off both sides in situ to make a 600mm gap for a cooker. I used a 48toothed blade in my circular saw which gave a lovely smooth (and non chipping) cut up to about 10cm from the wall. The last bit I removed with a bosch multi tool which enabled me to get right up to the wall nearly and in line with the cut. And as it oscillates in a tiny manor I didn't mark the wall. Thanks for a great video!

Thanks for the idea with the manual saw. Started to do it with a jigsaw, but that was a mess. With the maual one I could cut it flush by holding the saw against the side of the cabinet. A few scratches on it, but who cares? :)

My contractor installed a countertop with a backsplash 2 days ago, leaving 3 inches of overhang. The videos will help me with the countertop, but what to do to get the backsplash removed? He, the contractor sees nothing wrong in leaving it this way.

Hi Claudia, well he, the contractor, is very annoying! As the client who is paying him, have you tried asking him to take out the top and cut it properly then put it back? You could send him lots of images of kitchens showing that this is NOT the normal overhang. If you have already explored this route and got nowhere then stick your head under the counter to see how the laminate top is attached. Often it's screwed in position from underneath and the backsplash is not attached to it except by a mastic bead. So if you can remove the bead and unscrew the countertop from underneath you might be able to pull out the top without removing the backsplash. Cut the top, clean off any remaining mastick, slide the cut top back in position, screw it in from underneath and mastick the join between the backsplash and top. Stand back and admire. For next time, never pay for a job in full until it is done to YOUR satisfaction and monitor what work people are doing while they are doing it. Draw pictures of what you want to ensure that you are literally on the same page. Let us know how you get on. Good luck
